Sculpture: modern philosophy of art

The world of modern art is full of masterpieces that amaze the imagination. The concept of "sculpture" for many is limited only to those monuments that are installed within the city. But in fact, these works of art are many-sided and people do not even guess about many such creations.

Modern Art. Sculpture in all its manifestations

In itself, the word "sculpture" means "carving" or "carving". Materials from which such works of art are created can be different: stone, metal, plastic, wood and so on.

The modern sculpture can be represented in various forms:

  1. Bust - a sculpture mainly on a stand, depicting the upper body of a person. It can be head, shoulders and chest. This kind of sculpture transmits the real image of a person as much as possible. Differences from the original are minimal.
  2. Statuette. Such sculptures are small. Basically, figurines are used in the form of interior decorations. They can be different in form.
  3. A statue. This kind of sculpture is basic. In the form of statues, various images are created. It can be a person, an animal or a non-existent object. Such figures are attached to the pedestal.
  4. Torso is the human body that is created in a three-dimensional image. A characteristic feature of the torso is that it does not have a head and limbs.

Whatever the modern sculpture, the main task of the artist is to create a creation with the utmost laconism, special ingenuity and expressiveness.

Wood - living material for creating sculptures

Very many artists working with multi-figured compositions prefer wood as the material used. Since ancient times it was believed that this material stores living energy. Sculptures made of wood convey special heat, which is not inherent in other materials, such as marble or metal.

The choice of wood depends on how the artist will transfer the idea when creating the composition. A tree with rough texture is usually used for works that express the simplicity and laconic form. For sculptures with many small details such a tree is not suitable.

Features of work with a tree

Before starting to work on creating a sculpture, the master artist sketches on paper. Ideas come often at once, but the thought over of all the little things takes quite a long time. Many sculptors before sketching a composition from wood, create a sketch of clay or plasticine. Usually in such sketches do not adhere to the final form and neglect the small details and basic proportions. Careful detail in this work is not required.

After the first stage, the master proceeds to the second - rough processing. The definition and choice of basic forms are under way. It is from filing and correction that the entire subsequent result of the work depends.

After the cut is done, the sculptor, having found the symmetry of the workpiece, will mark it out and again start rough processing, but at the same time will stick to the main and auxiliary lines. The next stage will be the cutting down of the projection and the maximum removal of excess material, after which the usual log will turn into a masterpiece.

Sculptors of our time

Many who could distinguish themselves and succeed, because the modern sculpture does not set boundaries for imagination, some works of the masters amaze with their realistic forms.

One of the famous sculptors is Peter Demetz. This artist and sculptor was born, grew up and lives to this day in Italy, but his talent is known all over the world. When you look at his work, you get the impression that they can come to life at any moment. The realism of the compositions of the Italian sculptor is incredibly deep. The details of human bodies, which are made of wood, are anatomically accurate.

To work with his figures, the wizard uses only warm wood tones, without applying any other shades.

Most of the work of Peter Demetz has a small size. This decision of the artist is due to the fact that you need the opportunity to put the work in the framework.

Sculptures made of Italian wood created a furore all over the world.

Places storing masterpieces

There are many places in the world where people can get acquainted with such a notion as "sculpture". Modern life allows masters to show their creations to society. Of course, most exhibitions and galleries are in European countries and America. But there is a museum of modern sculpture in the CIS countries.

Ukrainian sculptor Mikhail Dzyndra opened his museum in his native land, which is now the department of the Lviv Art Gallery. The first sculptures that were exhibited in the museum were brought by the artist from the United States in the amount of 800 pieces. All the compositions the sculptor bought at his own expense.

Russian art in the world of sculptural art is represented by the Moscow Museum. Exposed more than 200 works.

Sculpture - a frozen fantasy

There is no limit to creativity. Fantasy can not be kept by setting a framework. History will always hold a memory of who creates multi-form creations. Each author-sculpture is different in its own way, unique and interesting.

Each work presented to the eye of a person is unique. Each sculpture is a line in the history of art.
