In 1876, the construction of a railway branch was started in the Samara province. By 1982, the institution became one of the largest in the USSR, where treatment in stationary conditions could benefit 500 people at a time. For many years in the competition of medical institutions the first places were occupied by Samara.

The railway hospital underwent a large-scale reconstruction in the 2000s.
