The importance of proper ventilation

Often the owners buy high-quality materials, investing in the repair of the roof of a serious means, but they ignore the advice of specialists. As a result, ventilation for the roof is arranged in a reduced form.

From the amateurish point of view, it is not entirely clear why one should organize ventilation, and how moisture generally appears in a dry house under a newly repaired or erected roof.

Let's analyze what happens if there is no ventilation of the roof.

In the residential building there is warm air, which rises with water vapor upwards, i.е. To the attic or attic, and is collected directly under the roof. If snow falls on the roof, it melts and causes its leakage due to the backwater of melt water. Unorganized drainage causes moistening of the facade. The water running down the slope freezes, reaching the cold sections above the cornice, forming icicles. And this means that the ventilation of the roof was done incorrectly.

At a roof temperature below zero, all the moisture contained in the air of the under-roof space turns into a condensate on its inner surface. With a significant difference in the external and internal temperatures of the water will be greater. And, as is known, an increase of 5% in humidity of the insulation leads to an increase in thermal conductivity of twice and more.

Forced ventilation of the roof through the walls of the building leads to their premature destruction.

And also to create conditions for the development of mold.

Ventilation of soft roofing is also necessary, as summer overheating together with the influence of ultraviolet reduces its service life and makes the attic room uncomfortable.

Modern ventilation systems

New ventilation systems provide for the use of the natural property of warm air to move upwards.

The basic principle: cold air comes through the vent at the bottom, but comes from above.

It is more effective if air moves through the entire under-roof space.

The roof ventilation is carried out for the following purposes:

• Removal of residual water vapor penetrating upward from the interior;

• leveling the temperature along the roof surface, which excludes the formation of ice on the cornice eaves, as a result of snow melting;

• reducing the heat build-up, which is formed under the roofing under sunlight.

Modern ventilation systems

Air inlets (blowouts) are closed with perforated decorative plastic or metal slats.

Ventilation of the roof provides for the use of different types of air outlets: point and continuous. Point (aerators) during installation are located in separate sections of the ridge or roof. They are mushroom-shaped, equipped with a built-in fan and integrated with the overall system of all ventilation at home. Continuous installs along the entire length of the ridge of the building, which provides better ventilation. As a rule, on top they are closed with roofing material and do not spoil the view of the building.

Ventilation of the roof is a necessary and most profitable investment in the construction of a house.
