Propane reducer - technical parameters, types and varieties

The propane gas reducer is a device designed to reduce the total gas pressure in the system (which, as a rule, is a gas pipeline or cylinder) to a working one. Also, this mechanism is able to automatically maintain the required level of this tool, regardless of the readings in the container itself, in which it is located.

Technical parameters of industrial and domestic gas devices

Often, a propane reducer (BPO 5-4 including) forms a fluid at the inlet with a pressure of the order of 25 atmospheres. The mechanisms used on methane cylinders are compressed 10 times more - up to 250 atmospheres. At the same time, the pressure of propane can be from 1 to 16 atm, depending on the specific model and type of device. The flow rate also depends on the type of gear unit. The weakest devices spend several tens of liters per hour, the strongest can process up to several hundred cubic meters.

Work algorithm

The principle of operation of this tool is not the same. It depends on the type of construction. There is a propane reducer with a falling characteristic (in which the pressure from the cylinder decreases with the flow of the liquid). It has the principle of direct action. In devices with increasing characteristics (when the gas decreases and at the same time the operating pressure in the system increases), the reverse algorithm of operation.

Types of gas reducers :

  1. Air.
  2. Oxygen.
  3. Propane.
  4. Acetylenic.
  5. Reducers for combustible gases.

The first type of device is used most often in industrial enterprises as a device for reducing the degree of air compression and maintaining its stable value in the system.

Oxygen devices are also used for industrial purposes, but they are often found in the field of engineering and metallurgy. Especially they are in demand for gas welding, soldering and cutting of metal.

The propane household gas reducer can be used as a regulator in tanks for feeding liquid from a cylinder to a gas stove. In addition, it is used in HBO vehicles and is involved in carrying out autogenous work. The range of its adjustment can vary from 0 to 3 kgf / cm2.

The acetylene reducer is used in public utilities for cutting and laying pipelines and can be subdivided into devices for non-flammable and combustible gases. By the way, the latter have a left thread (this is necessary in order to prevent unauthorized connection of the mechanism to the oxygen cylinder). Accordingly, the reducers for combustible gases are characterized by a right-hand thread, as well as containers with oxygen.

Thus, the propane reducer against the background of all other devices differs in that it is often used for household purposes and in machine building. Practically every cylinder with such gas is equipped directly with this device, from which already there is a thick rubber hose, and is connected by a thread to the plate for the subsequent supply of liquid to the burners.
