Porsche 928: a legend that went down in history "Porsche"

Porsche 928 is one of the most luxurious and elegant coupe of this German company, produced in the late 70's. The production of the model, however, lasted almost 20 years - from 1977 to 1995. This machine has become a direct proof that Stuttgart manufacturers can do not only the rear-engine units.

Briefly about the history

First of all I would like to note that Porsche 928 was supposed to be released in 1971, that is six years earlier than it turned out. After all, at the end of the sixties the management of the company wanted to remove from the assembly line such a legendary model as the 911th Porsche! It was believed that this car has exhausted its resources, and the rear-engine design has no right to exist. But then they decided to leave this venture and start developing a classic version of the car.

To create body panels Porsche 928, in the production of special galvanized steel. However, the hood, doors and front fenders were made of pure aluminum. Thanks to this, the weight of the coupe was reduced to the possible minimum. In particular, this model is a quarter of a ton lighter than all its competitors, which are "Ferrari 400" and "Jaguar XJ-S". And the firm "Porsche" gave a guarantee on the body for a period of seven years. This was proof that the machine is reliable, because the panels are galvanized from two sides.

Exterior and interior

True car connoisseurs know the nickname that distinguishes the Porsche 928. "Shark" - that's what it's called! Powerful 3-door coupe with the lowest center of gravity. A bright feature is the sharpened front, which gives the impression that the bumper of the model is integrated. Almost all of its area is occupied by signs of turns, license plate and "dimensions".

"Peredok" is decorated with round retractable headlights. And complements the whole image of a long curved hood of rectangular shape and smooth front wings.

And the interior is a separate topic. The interior looks very expensive and luxurious - this can be seen from the above picture. Used only expensive finishing materials. Inside, there is a four-spoke steering wheel, a clear and intuitive instrument panel hidden under a deep anti-reflective visor. The torpedo does not have sharp edges or corners. And they are pleased with the seats - they have excellent lateral support, thanks to which the passengers are perfectly "fixed" for the duration of the trip.

By the way, this machine was in the program "Machinators". Porsche 928 colors of "cocoa" was bought by the lead, Mike Brewer, for just 1600 pounds. But after the works that were carried out on this machine, he received for her 6,000! And indeed, indeed, the "Porsche" from an unloved, untidy car, standing in the garage for a long time, turned into a model, sitting behind the wheel of which you could think that it was made yesterday. And after all it was necessary to invest only a little - the car is good.

Power unit

In the beginning, the car was to be equipped with a 300-horsepower 5-liter engine. But in the 70's came the oil crisis, because from this engine it was decided to refuse. Instead, they put a 180-hp 3.3-liter unit. However, he did not fit. As a result, simply modernized the status V8 - reduced the volume to 4.5 liters, and power reduced to 240 hp. The motor gave the car the ability to accelerate to hundreds in just 7 seconds.

Then the light version of the Porsche 928 S with a 4.7-liter engine and a capacity of 300 "horses". The maximum speed was 245 km / h. Then there was the second model - S2, with a 310-horsepower motor. In the late 80's came out and S4. Under the hood of this model was a 320-horsepower engine. With him, the car accelerated to a hundred in 5.7 seconds, and the speed limit was 274 km / h. By the way, any model could be equipped with either a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-diagonal AT from Mercedes-Benz.

The most powerful version

And, finally, a few words about the legendary Porsche 928 GTS. Under the hood of this car was installed a powerful 350-horsepower engine, thanks to which the car could accelerate to 100 km / h in only 5.4 seconds. And the maximum speed was 274 km / h.

A separate attention I would like to note the suspension of the Porsche 928 GTS (1991). Completely independent multi-link construction - thanks to it the car was very "docile" in handling. Moreover, the specialists of Porsche have implemented a new development - Weissach Axle technology. Due to it passive control of the rear wheels was provided. And because of this, the oversteer effect was eliminated.

In general, the 928th Porsche is a legendary German car, which is still powerful and attractive for true connoisseurs of old models.
