"Pontiac GTO": the history of the pioneer

Back in 1964, the public was presented with a car, which was destined to enter the history of the automobile industry. "Pontiac GTO JUDGE" was a slightly upgraded version of a conventional coupe, which was equipped with a powerful engine. According to the author of the idea, he expected the car to disperse well at a maximum of five thousand copies, but the reality turned out to be much more pleasant. Just think - the idea of fine car customization by installing a more powerful engine on it was the beginning of an entire era. It was a dawning popularity of oil mahogany.

The prototype of the new series was Pontiac Tempest. Manufacturers initially did everything to emphasize - this is not a family car. The model was equipped with a 6.4-liter engine that could produce 350 horses, in addition, the stock version was equipped with wide sports tires, a dual-output system and an advanced steering system. The model produced a sensation - over the first year over 32,000 cars were sold. Literally everyone wanted to own this road monster.

A year later, an updated version appeared, which developed the ideas laid down in the ancestor of the series. Popular at that time, the magazine "Autocar" conducted a test drive of the new model "Pontiac GTO" - the dynamic characteristics surprised even those who saw the types of gurus of the autodel - up to 100 miles per hour the car was accelerated in 18 seconds. Updating the lineup was a good decision - sales increased from 32,000 to 100,000 vehicles per year.

Versions

In due time "Pontiac GTO" was constantly improved. In a world of constant competition, there is only one way to survive - to keep a firm grip on the pulse in order to be able to offer the best of the possible to the consumer. Oil carts were updated once a year in order to take into account all the wishes of customers. "Pontiac GTO" was constantly changing, but always kept its essence - it was all the same coupe with a bright design and a hot heart. But other than this option, there were others.

  • Cabriolet. Another good finding of the company. It was she who caused the high popularity of cars with an open top. In this model, everyone could find something for themselves. High nature could enjoy the movement coupled with the wind of freedom, and speed lovers received higher characteristics, because the motor was the same as in the compartment, but there was no roof, so the ratio of "horsepower per ton" was different.
  • Four-seat sedan. This option was designed for those who could not afford an expensive sports car.
  • Coupe. A dream machine that won the hearts of millions of car enthusiasts.

Sunset Era

The "Pontiac GTO" model of 1969 was the last classic model, which had outstanding popularity, after it began to move downward. The fact is that in 1971 in America the era of love for the environment began, and the government introduced quotas for the exhaust of cars. Such a monster, like an oil-car, was now heavily penalized, which meant that it became extremely unprofitable. This was the end of the series "Pontiac GTO 1969". The price of buying a car remained the same, but the pleasure to manage it began to cost prohibitively expensive.

Thirty years passed before the manufacturer decided to revive the legend. In 2004, a new line of Pontiacs was released. What is its place in history, only time will show.
