Poisoning in a child? Symptoms and First Aid

As if parents did not protect their child, sooner or later they, most likely, will have to face such an unpleasant event as food poisoning. Through this, absolutely everything passes, and therefore, it is not necessary to panic and get scared - it is better to know all the necessary information about the poisoning in the child: the symptoms that you may encounter, the possible causes of poisoning and, of course, first aid measures in such a situation. And now let's talk about everything in order.

What can poison children?

First, it is important to remember that the children's organism is much more sensitive to what it absorbs than the adult's body. That's why you always need to watch what exactly and in what quantities your baby eats - that your digestive system calmly digests, its sensitive organs can perceive quite differently. So, poisoning in a child, the symptoms of which cause such anxiety among parents, can be caused by:

  • Food of poor quality, expired or poorly disinfected products;
  • Poisonous berries, mushrooms and plants;
  • Vegetables or fruits that have been treated with chemical agents from parasites;
  • Alcohol;
  • Cosmetics (some children, without thinking, pull in their mouth and such unsuitable items);
  • Medicinal preparations;
  • Means of household chemicals.

Main symptoms

How does the child's poisoning manifest itself? Symptoms, in fact, can vary greatly depending on the state of the child and on what exactly he was poisoned. The main ones are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. However, "core" does not mean "single". Children who have poisoned, can complain of pains in the abdominal region, often they have a high fever. Sometimes, poisoning causes convulsions, normal coordination of movements is disrupted. A "jumping" pulse and pressure can also indicate poisoning in a child. Symptoms that are different from normal, but should also alert you - changes in breathing (rapidity or, on the contrary, slowing down), redness of the skin or its unusual pallor, confusion and fainting.

What to do?

If your child is poisoned, it is better to immediately call a doctor at home. Only he will be able to assess the condition of the child and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

The easiest way to deal with food poisoning. The first step in terms of their treatment is a watering. Every 10 minutes the baby must drink a teaspoonful of glucose-saline solution. It can be replaced with a solution of a rehydrone, which doctors often recommend to those who ask what to give the child for poisoning. This solution is better to alternate with a sweet liquid - carrot-rice decoction, compote, etc. However, it is important to keep the dosage so that the product acts and does not cause even more problems.

One of the most disturbing symptoms is the temperature of poisoning in a child. If the baby has a fever, you can give him a febrifuge (in the form of a pill or syrup, but not candles!) Or use popular methods of knocking down the temperature.

When a child's appetite wakes up, do not immediately give him to overeat. It is best to feed it in smaller portions, but a little more often, and as for the dishes themselves, then semi-liquid food is ideal.

If it is a question of chemical poisoning, do not try to induce vomiting, because there is a risk that the child will get internal burns. Be careful to be with skin poisonings: before the doctor's arrival you should thoroughly wash the affected area with a lot of soapy water.
