Planting cherries in autumn: basic rules

Cherry planting in autumn begins with choosing the right place. In this case, it is necessary to take into account a whole complex of different agrotechnical factors. All details, even the smallest ones, have value. It is necessary to take into account photophilicity of cherries, which means that the site should be well lit. Choose places on the hill and there, where the trees will not fall shadow. Another important factor is the protection from the wind. In winter, the cold wind will freeze the heat-loving seedlings, and they may die.

In the summer, pestles will be dried in flowers, which will lead to difficulties in natural pollination. Planting of cherries in autumn or spring should be done on light fertile soils. It is unacceptable to root the seedlings on acidic grounds, as this will prevent trees from absorbing nutrients. Reduce the acidity of the soil will help liming, in addition, it is not superfluous to make a mixture containing potassium and phosphorus.

Cherry planting time

It is generally believed that cherries, like some other fruit trees and shrubs, are best planted in the spring. In this case, they will have enough time for rooting. However, in the southern or warm central regions of Russia, you can plant cherries in the autumn. The main thing is to do all the work before the beginning of October, that is, about a month before the onset of frosts.

Planting of cherries in autumn: agrotechnics

The pit for the landing is mined in advance, at least two weeks in advance. Its diameter should be 80 cm, depth not less than 50 cm. In the pit it is necessary to stick a wooden peg, filling it with a mixture of earth, humus and a small part of mineral fertilizers (60 g of potassium and 200 g of phosphorus). Then you can lower the seedling, gently unfold its roots and sprinkle with earth. After planting, the soil is slightly compacted. Watering is mandatory - two buckets of water inside a specially made earthen bort. In the end, you need to tie a seedling to a peg - this will provide protection for the fragile trunk.

Planting of cherries in autumn: notes

Cherries are preferably planted in spring, but in this period it is not always possible to find seedlings. However, there are quite a few of them in autumn, so even if you do not plan to root the planting material before freezing, it should be purchased and prikopat on any free site. To do this, a pit of 65 cm in length and 35-40 cm deep is prepared, and a slope of 45 ° is made on its southern side. The seedlings are laid and filled with soil to the branches, after which the ground is rammed.

Still gardeners need to know that it does not make much sense to plant just one cherry. At least two trees are needed, which will pollinate each other. Not every variety is capable of independent pollination, so pick up those species that will be well suited to each other. For example, "shpanke" is well suited "griot", and "lyubskaya" can pollinate the "tray" and "blackblood".

The correct planting of cherries in autumn is only the first step to obtaining a plentiful harvest. It is necessary to care for seedlings - to conduct timely loosening, pruning, watering, fertilizing the soil and providing protection from pests. And only in this case, your efforts will bring the long-awaited fruit.
