Terms of writing and features
The picture "Tea drinking in Mytischi" clearly has a satirical connotation. At the same time, it was created at the request of the city government. However, such openly anti-clerical work was never accepted. The picture is mostly in inexpressive tones. The author - Vasily Grigorievich Perov - here refused the rich palette. Grayish-green tones are used to convey the usual nature of the situation and its vitality. The composition of the picture is also interesting. The master decided to draw the attention of the viewer to various opposing elements. One can clearly see the exhaustion of the soldier and the satiety of the monk, the torn shirt and the purity of incredibly expensive boots, polished to a mirror finish. It is important to note that the hand held by the guest behind the alms is directed into the void.
Releasing spiritual emptiness, gluttony and hypocrisy of churchmen, the author is fully on the side of the offended and unhappy. In this work, the artist perfectly conveyed the atmosphere of awkwardness that arose in the described situation. The servant, who serves the guest, tries to look solely to the side, is ashamed, and also feels uncomfortable. The composition is in a circle, which is created by the trees of the garden. In the foreshortening of characters, as well as in the manner of writing, one can see the irony of the author, sarcasm and satire. It is no accident that the artist in the specified creative period had numerous troubles, which are connected with the evaluation of the Holy Synod of a number of works by the master. All of them have an anticlerical orientation.
