Pacifism is a utopia or a real possibility?

Pacifism is the belief that the world is the apotheosis of bliss, the most faithful form of being. This cultural and philosophical current assumes that everything can be achieved through negotiations, compromises and concessions. Nowadays this current has two main prejudices, however, unfortunately, none of them is effective.

What is pacifism

In the first case, which can be called political, pacifism is the disarmament of peoples who do not want to live in a war. In this case, it is assumed that every state where the world reigns and people are not set for battles for anything should abandon the possibility of maintaining an army and ammunition. It also implies the abolition of all military preparations and training.

In the second case, pacifism is, rather, a philosophical trend, where the war is condemned by all burrows of morality and human rights. As examples, summaries are given where the number of dead people, destroyed buildings, which have historical and cultural significance, destroyed monuments is indicated. Also pacifists pay attention to the cruel nature of any war, which is necessarily accompanied by blood, suffering and death.

Modern problems of society

However, by all measures, our world has not yet reached the state of harmony and balance, in which it would be possible to avoid such phenomena. Any peace-loving state, deprived of the army, will become a bait for others, who immediately attack it and tear it to pieces, depriving them of religion, traditions and cultural heritage. In turn, the same can be said about the second stereotype of pacifism. If we consider the war as barbarism, then automatically we are deprived of the right to avenge the injuries and defeats inflicted on them, and to protect those who are under the tutelage of the state.

Proceeding from the modern life principles, it can be stated that pacifism is a utopia that can be achieved either by a complete suppression of the feelings of a person or by the conversion of all people of the world to a single faith, to the same traditions and rules. Neither one is real, since each individual will defend his native customs, will defend his homeland and apply to it both weapons and his emotions and feelings.

History of the term

The very definition of "pacifism" comes from the English word "pacific", which means "peaceful," "calm." This term arose in the 20th century in England, when the war went beyond the usual earlier framework and acquired the character of a nuclear one. Around that time, many countries signed acts that dealt with military neutrality and a ban on entering any war.

At the same time, the symbol of pacifism, which testifies to the nuclear disarmament of Great Britain, was also developed. Painted by his English artist Gerald Holt, after which the symbol appeared on all flags and on the uniform of soldiers who were to participate in the march against the atomic war. It is also believed that this symbol has ancient Indian roots. Many people confuse him with one of the magical runes. However, in all cases, whenever this sign is encountered, it symbolizes tranquility, balance and pacification. It is based on a circle - a figure that does not have sharp ends and corners. He is perfect and in no way adjusts a person to military style.
