Osman (fish): where it is found, how and what to catch

In Asian rivers, you can sometimes find fish, uncharacteristic for the usual catch on average fishing. But they also deserve the close attention of an inveterate fisherman. To such "eastern" trophies can be attributed the Central Asian Ottomans - a fish that lives in the icy water of fast rivers running in the highlands. It also occurs in the highland lakes of Altai.

General characteristics

There are three kinds of this genus. All of them are rather rare and inherently endemic. That is, they are no longer found anywhere except in certain Central Asian mountain reservoirs. And the habitat of these fish is the upper reaches and the middle of the current of small mountain rivers. Ottomans can also live in alpine lakes, sometimes they rise along the streams of streams up to the very glaciers.

Osman is a predatory fish belonging to the family of carp. It is divided into three types:

  • naked;
  • scaly;
  • Altai (mountain dace).

Naked Ottoman: description

Osman naked has a body almost without scaly covering, in shape elongated. On the back, the color is brown or greenish-gray, with a bluish tint. There are also golden, and also gray-silver color. On the sides - yellowish, with orange features, and the fins of the abdominal - spotted. On the upper fin, on the back - a thorn.

This fish has fleshy flesh, the lower one is broken in the center, and in the corners of the mouth - the antennae, like many carp.

Osman is a fish inhabiting Central Asia, in such water bodies as Balkhash, Issyk-Kul, Zaisan, and also in Mongolian lakes and rivers. By nature, he likes clean and fast water, cool - even very low temperatures. It is often based in the uppermost flow of the rivers of the Central Asian mountains, and if it lives in the lake, then it should be looked for deeper, in places where the water is transparent and cold.

His diet is mollusks, smaller fish, insect larvae and arthropods themselves. Spawning of the species passes at different times: near the lake - in the spring, at the river - in the summer.

Catching Ottoman Naked

Osman - the fish is not too large, but it can become a worthy trophy for a skilled fisherman. Its weight rarely reaches 3 kilograms, with a length of not more than half a meter. The average weight is 2 kg, the length is 30 or more cm.

Ottomans - the fish is quite strong and tricky, so when fishing it can be used various gear: spinning and feeding, as well as float fishing rods. But best of all, according to some fishermen, Osman goes for spinning of medium size.

Osman (fish): on what to catch?

The bait for this representative of the Central Asian fauna can serve as small zhivtsy, mollusk meat (living in local rivers), worms: manure and earth. It should not be forgotten that osman is a predatory fish, although it belongs to the family of carp. It is not too large, but it can provide worthy resistance when disguised, as for a good trophy. In general, it is necessary to sweat slightly, but this is what makes fishing a passion!

The forest should be selected from 0.25 to 0.35 in cross-section, and the hooks for fishing should be numbered from 6 to 10. To activate and peck Ottoman begins after spawning, during spring floods, and in early summer. But in winter, the predator's enthusiasm declines. But what is characteristic, even in the cold season, this fish does not sleep and continues to feed, which increases the chances of the fisherman, as winter catching can be very successful. Well goes at this time the fish Osman (photo of it you can see in our article) on mormyshku, float tackle, sheer gliding.

Scaly osman

Scaly appearance resembles nude, but there is a scaly cover on the body. Moreover, above the lateral line, it covers the body almost completely, forming a so-called "cleavage" around the anus. And on the back, on the upper fin, this fish does not have thorns.

What kind of environment do scaly Ottomans prefer? Fish (where this species is found, it is clear from the previous descriptions) loves clean and cool water. It lives in the Issyk-Kul lake and some adjacent rivers - in their upper reaches. Below the rifts, it is mainly kept in the bottom areas, pools.

Diet, dimensions

In the menu of this species: fry and shellfish, presented in abundance of assortment in rivers, insects and their nutritious larvae, some aquatic vegetation. Such fish can reach a mass of 1.5 kilograms (although rarely) and up to half a meter in length. And most often, the catch of a fisherman can become individuals with sizes of 0.2-0.3 meters and weighing up to a pound.

Catching of Scaly Osman

Spawning of these fish takes place during the whole summer, since eggs of osman are deposited in small portions. At this time fishing is prohibited. In the rest of the year on the bottom tackle, spinning very well goes scaly osman.

Fish, catching in the Almaty region of which, for example, is carried out in spring and autumn, prefers as baits worms and larvae of various insects. The line is used 0.22-0.28 millimeters, hooks are preferable to take from the 6th to the 8th number.

Altai variety (mountain dace)

Yelets is also a water predator. It has a body resembling a spindle. Color - greenish, dark, but the back is lighter. On the sides are scattered spots - small, darkish shade. On the head of the Altaian Osman there is a marble pattern, and the belly is blackish, with a brownish tinge.

Habitat, diet

The reservoirs of Tuva, the lake environment of Altai, the river Ob in the upper places, the Chui and Biya rivers - this is the habitat of the Altaian Osman. Preference is given only to clean and cool water. He loves Osman to frolic in the current stream, but also does not mind resting in calm and quiet places, in areas with a stony or sandy bottom, where the current is calm.

In food, the Altai variety of Osman uses small fishes, marmosha, underwater vegetation in an insignificant quantity and larvae of some insects. Spawning occurs in the spring, when the water reaches a temperature of + 10 ° C and above.

Altai Ottomans (fish): fishing and tackle

This fish sometimes grows larger than its fellow-members. The length of some individuals can reach 65 cm, and weight - about 4 kg. But, on average, you can catch Osman, even a kilogram for two, and he, of course, will be a pleasant trophy for any fisherman.

Catching of the Altaic Ottoman is well done by spinning. As baits it is better to use spinners spinning, not large and not heavy. True, traditional rotators are lately giving way to new-fashioned spinning gear.

Sometimes fishing for dace (osman) takes place on the float or dunk. And as a bait used often zhivets - small fish, which in nature feeds this mountain fish. Ottoman well goes on cutting from fish meat, to manure and earthworm, to shellfish meat. Forests are required for catching - 0,3 or 0,4 millimeters, and hooks - from six to ten.

Biting at the Osman, as a rule, greedy and, they say, for sure. But getting caught on a hook, this fish can have a strong resistance to vyvazhivanii, so that you need to keep an ear with it vostro. And the most active biting is observed in the first week after spawning.

The Altai Ottoman is caught in the winter. As a rule, for fishing are used spoon-bait percussion, and tackle mormychechnaya. During the last, a bokoplav (mormysh) is used as a bait on the hook.

What you need to know for successful Ottoman fishing

Spawning of this fish ends after summer floods. Given time, according to experts, the most effective for catching. For amateur fishing, traditional spinning, float, and dunk are often used. And for the industrial catch of the Altaian Osman - nonsense and network. But in the winter time - well, he goes to the float fishing rod and mormyshku. Vertical gliding is also often used.

The fish itself is not too shy and unpretentious, so special skills are not required for its catching. The main task of the fisherman is to get to the catching places, since they, at times, are in high-altitude places. And here amateurs hunt with a fishing rod for the fall of the trap of the treacherous natural elements and cold winds.

A good plus is the moment that baits for osman can always be found right on the spot. One should only walk along the shore, collect larvae or worms, and catch fishing is almost guaranteed!
