JSC "Mari Machine-Building Plant" (Yoshkar-Ola) is the main enterprise for the production of modernized anti-aircraft systems of the S-300V series. MMZ is strategically important for the country, on which Russia's defense capability depends to a large extent.

Description

The enterprise is a part of Almaz-Antey holding, responsible, in particular, for the development, implementation, release and maintenance of advanced products in the field of air defense. By decree of the President of April 18, 2002 the plant was transformed into a joint-stock company. The production is located at the address: 424003, Mari El, Yoshkar-Ola, ul. Suvorov, 15.

Historical reference

With the deterioration of the international situation in 1939, the Soviet government decided to build a duplicate enterprise of the plant "Geodesia" away from the border, where it could produce equipment for aerial reconnaissance. As a production site, the outskirts of the city of Yoshkar-Ola, the capital of the Mari ASSR, were chosen.

However, by the beginning of the war, only foundation pits for the foundations of buildings were ready. In August, a number of evacuated optico-mechanical plants from Odessa, Moscow arrived on the site, the necessary equipment was delivered from Kazan. While the enterprise was being built, the production process was organized in the former agricultural machinery. The birthday of MMZ is August 25, 1941. Here we manufactured optics for tanks, artillery systems, anti-aircraft rangefinders, sniper's sights.

The second world showed the superiority of radars against optics in terms of detecting and tracking air targets. The appearance of jet aircraft contributed to speeding up the development of domestic radar for air defense. This is what the enterprise was doing. For these purposes in 1949 a large reorganization was carried out, new buildings were built, personnel was retrained. The reserve, created in those years, still allows today to produce the best radar systems in the world, means of suppressing and defeating air targets.

Over the years of restructuring, the Mari Machine-Building Plant has retained its production base. Dozens of workshops and auxiliary services are located on the factory territory. Today the enterprise is increasing the pace of production of civil and defense products.

Production

Today the Mari Machine-Building Plant produces, modernizes, accompanies mobile reconnaissance points 9С80М and their modifications. They are used as command posts of tactical air defense units for the control of various types of air defense systems: Tunguska, Shilka, Osa, Strela, Tor, Igla and others.

At the Mari Machine-Building Plant, there is a powerful technology bureau that can develop innovative products that do not have world analogues. Many young people come to production. The backbone of the team consists of experienced managers of the grass-roots level: masters, production managers, technologists. MMZ specialists solve a full cycle of production tasks necessary for the serial production of unique products. The shops are now fully loaded, the workers receive a decent salary.

Production

The defense enterprise for many years produced air defense systems "Pechora" S-125, today it is modernizing them. Of course, the main focus of the work is the production of the S-300V SAM and its export version of Antey-2500. This is one of the most effective anti-aircraft systems. They will remain the backbone of the country's air defense for a long time, because the more modern C400 and C500 are just beginning to appear in the troops, and it will take a long time to produce them in sufficient quantities.

The capabilities of the S-300, being modernized at the Mari Machine-Building Plant, are sufficient for reliable cover of military factions, strategic facilities, industrial centers. They effectively counter all types of aeroballistic and aerodynamic targets, including ballistic missiles. The analogue of the US production of the Patriot missile system is inferior to the domestic system in all respects.

Currently, MMZ is conducting several new projects. In particular, the development and implementation of:

• Antenna posts;
• Wave reducers;
• Phase shifters.

The partners of the plant in the field of designing and manufacturing new systems are the Electromechanical Research Institute and the NGO Almaz-Antey.
