Oceans of the Earth and their meaning

Approximately 75% of the entire surface of the Earth is made up of seas and oceans. They are one unit, connecting with each other by straits. The entire hydrosphere of the planet is called the World Ocean. In turn, the oceans of the Earth contain 97% of all water.

How many oceans are there in the world? The world is divided into four parts. These are the following oceans: Pacific, Arctic, Atlantic and Indian.

Quiet is considered the largest. Its area is about 166 million square kilometers. His name he received after he first managed to cross the famous traveler Magellan. The water resource of the Pacific Ocean is almost half the world's water reserves. Its largest length is 17 thousand kilometers. It's almost half the globe. But its name does not correspond to reality. It does not always remain beautiful and serene. Due to the high seismic activity, strong storms and earthquakes are typical for him, which make him terrifying.

The waters of the Pacific wash the territory of the earth from East Asia to America, including the coast of Africa. The depth of its waters is uneven. The smallest is 120 meters. The average varies within 4000 meters. The ocean is famous for the most unique place on Earth, the Marian Trench, whose depth is 11022 meters. After the carried out researches it has appeared, as there there are living organisms.

The relief of the bottom of the Pacific Ocean has a different structure. There are also ranges of seamounts, and numerous depressions. On its territory there are many islands with volcanic origin. The waters of the ocean are rich in living organisms.

The oceans of the Earth are interconnected. The second largest is the Atlantic. Its area is 82 million square kilometers. The largest depth of the ocean reaches 9218 meters. In the middle of its territory stretched a huge underwater ridge. The Atlantic Ocean has a great influence on the weather in Europe.

Another representative of the system that the oceans of the Earth make up is the Indian one. Its area is 73 million square kilometers, it is on the third place in terms of size. It can be called the warmest ocean. In this regard, its waters are distinguished by a large variety of plant and animal organisms. A hollow is found around the island of Java, which is located on the Indian Ocean. Its depth reaches 7450 meters. A feature of the ocean is the change in the flow of its waters to the opposite. This happens twice a year.

The Indian Ocean washes the shores of East Africa, India, Australia and Antarctica. Underwater earthquakes cause the formation of mountain peaks that protrude above the surface and form islands chains.

The oceans of the Earth include the smallest Arctic Ocean. It is located between Siberia and Canada. Its peculiarity is that most of its surface is covered with ice. Therefore, this ocean has not yet been fully explored. The greatest depth is 5000 meters. Closer to the territory of Russia is the continental shelf. This determines the small depth of the coastal seas: the Barents, Chukchi, Laptev, Kara, East Siberian.

Sea water is 3% composed of dissolved mineral salts. This indicator can vary. So, for example, the Dead Sea water contains 24% salt. Also, the composition of ocean water includes gold. Its total number is huge, but the density is so small that it is almost impossible to obtain it.

World oceans contain a lot of information about the past of the planet. Their research continues today. Oceans of the Earth store many secrets and mysteries. Some phenomena mankind can not unravel for a long time. It is a fount of minerals and other resources needed for people.
