Adjusting the clutch: tips for car enthusiasts from professionals

What is grip? The mechanism on which the smooth running of the car and the soft shift of gearbox speeds depend , when the car is visually examined, practically does not rush into the eyes. The chauffeur remembers about its presence thanks to the pedal located near the left foot. This mechanism is called cohesion. When the pedal is depressed, the clutch is switched off, the leg is removed from it - the clutch is engaged. Thanks to this simple mechanism, the driver can at any time interrupt the engine's connection with the transmission. When the clutch adjustment is well adjusted, it allows the car to smoothly move from the place, without jerks to dial the desired rate of travel, quietly switch speeds, slowing down or decreasing the course of the car.

On Russian cars traditionally installed so-called "dry grip", a single-disk. However, on separate brands, for example, "Niva", a hydraulic drive is used in the clutch. The clutch drive is perhaps the most vulnerable place in the mechanism and requires adjustment.

Checking the technical condition

This mechanism needs to be diagnosed much less frequently than the steering or brakes. But from time to time to check its status is necessary. Any violations and malfunctions in the operation of the clutch are fraught with serious consequences, especially if the car is away from service centers or any other place where the driver will be assisted and lead the car into a "live" state. The machine can simply stop and no longer go on its own, or its mobility will be only partial. The causes of malfunctions can be the wear of one friction lining in the driven disc or several at once, and the breakdown of the slave itself - from a long service life, etc.

How to understand if the clutch adjustment is already necessary?

  • When the driver wants to start smoothly, and the car starts to twitch, there are clearly felt bumps, jerks;
  • The clutch pedal sinks;
  • The inclusion of the transmission is accompanied by a special characteristic noise.

To test the state it is possible and thus: to start the motor, then, slowly, remove the foot from the clutch pedal and move. Instant start of the movement indicates that there is no free running. And if the car remained standing even when the pedal was completely released, hence, its course is more than normal. Now you should take a regular ruler and measure the space from the floor in the car to the rubber pedal pad. Ideally, there should be 160 millimeters. If the distance is greater, i.e. The pedal is above the specified limit, the clutch pedal and actuator must be adjusted.

Lessons of Samodelkin

To bring the clutch into a normal working state, you can adjust its drive, more precisely, the adjusting bolt. It is under the hood, at the end of the cable. It is difficult to make a mistake: this bolt is secured with locknuts.

Adjustment of the clutch is accomplished by debugging the clutch pedal. It should be in the limit of 120-130-millimeters. To increase the stroke, you need to tighten the nut on the tip, and to reduce the pedal stroke - the nut is unscrewed.

When the debugging is complete, the pedal should be pressed three times, and then measured again from the floor to the pedal pad. If it still does not meet the required parameters, the clutch adjustment must be continued.

If the clutch is hydraulic, the technology of its debugging is somewhat different. It should be remembered that the squeeze fork of the pusher rod should be spaced about 5 millimeters apart. To install such a length, the spring from the bracket at the working cylinder with the fork is removed, and the adjusting nut from the cylinder rod is twisted or unscrewed so that the fork has a free stroke of not less than 5 millimeters.

Note

When adjusting the clutch mechanism, be sure to carefully examine the specifications of your car. Depending on the model of the machine, there may be various modifications to this mechanism.
