New Mind - Trap for Psychologists

"If you just want to, you can fly to space."

I once believed in this doctrine.

At first I believed, because I generally believed in fairy tales. I was afraid that from under the bed pops out and grabs my leg with a clawed paw. I expected to see a small rope at the roots of the trees, on which little dwarf kittens are dried.

Then I grew up, and contacted the occult. The mysterious world of "eastern" teachings, mahatmas, magic and "ancient" knowledge. All this seemed real.

And then I was cured, I became a psychologist, I became a realist. But what do I see? A lot of my colleagues, even those who received the strictest academic education, preach various tales with self-oblivion!

Alas, psychology and in the minds of the "average person" is often associated with something magical. Even if this magic mimics the science: energy information channels, egregores, bioinformational fields - the terms are impressive.

As it turned out, the "new thinking" is not an invention of Mikhal Sergeyevich Gorbachev, it is quite an American ideological invention. An invention that brings good money to all new generations of "gurus."

Do you want a test of belonging to the "new thinking" worldview?

Here are the signs:

  • You tell people that "words are material."

  • You suspect that in a past life they were a very important person.

  • Your dream is to go (or go again) to India.

  • You read several books by Osho.

  • Paolo Coelho has helped you to understand the world correctly.

  • You know exactly what "transfing" is written with one "c", and that "this thing works."

  • You try to meditate from time to time.

  • You love everything natural, and you are afraid of "chemistry" and GMOs.

  • You are going to "develop" to the divine level.

  • You think that the family and the school have instilled in you installations that prevent you from getting rich.

  • You sometimes think of vegetarianism, or already practice it.

  • You believe that all religions are one and the same, and most importantly, what's in the soul.

  • You like the films "The Secret" and "The Spirit of Time", as well as the book "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari".

Well, and so on. If at least 3 of your signs ... Then all the others are also yours. Congratulations, you are the bearer of "new thinking".

So what?

There is something.

New thinking is a variant of the New Age ideology, which is rather a socio-religious phenomenon, rather than a scientific paradigm or tradition. This is not psychology, and it contradicts psychology as a science. Nothing would be terrible, but a practicing psychologist in the eyes of his clients and customers is a wise man from the science of the human soul. An authoritative parent figure, if you like.

And here is the danger of substituting and discrediting the profession: the notorious "psychologists have proved" already beats the reputation of all science and profession.

Installations, beliefs, faith - all this affects both health and success. But not through "cosmic laws"! We do not know these cosmic "laws". Neither in the scientific nor in the legal sense.

And enough to write (and speak) with a capital letter: Harmony, the Universe, Soul, Happiness, Spiritual Development.

The spiritually hungry population is searching for spiritual teachers. Let us remain ourselves - psychologists. Moreover, we can not give anything "spiritual" to our "flock" - or we are not psychologists, but gurus.

Here is our trap - we are put in a pose guru, and even give money. Do not give in!

Give flies separately, and cutlets separately. And then for the power-science is offensive. And you do not mind?
