MPGU, former Moscow State Pedagogical University. Lenin: history, address. Moscow State Pedagogical University

The Moscow State Pedagogical Institute is a continuation of the famous Gerier higher women's courses, which for the first time opened the opportunity for an excellent sex to receive education and became a kind of the beginning of the feminist movement in Russia.

The opening of the MFU

The initiator of the creation of private women's courses was the historian and prominent public figure Vladimir Gerier. The idea was supported by the Minister of Education, Count Tolstoy. The opening of the institution took place in the building of the First Male Gymnasium in Volkhonka in November 1872. The Moscow Higher Women's Courses became the first educational institution open to females from any class. Until this time, the ladies had to apply to foreign institutions and universities, where this opportunity was long overdue.

In the 19th century and earlier it was believed that education harmed women, as a result, women could not take part in many spheres of life. Opponents of the change in the situation in favor of education were very many, which did not prevent the courses of Guernier to exist in the original period of sixteen years. Initially, it was planned that the training will last 2 years, later the term has increased to 3 years.

The first period

The chosen direction of education has become the humanities. The main subjects, read on the courses, were world and Russian history, literature, art history. Since 1879, the number of items has increased, the curriculum has introduced reduced courses in mathematics, physics, astronomy and hygiene.

Education was carried out on a commercial basis, the cost of one year of training was estimated at 30 rubles for the entire course of subjects. Those who wanted more, paid 10 rubles a year for each individual item. The same amount was paid by volunteers who wanted to build their own educational process.

The request in the society for the creation of such courses was great - in the first year after the opening the number of students was 70, and by 1885 it had grown to 256 people, which was almost a record for that time. Despite the huge demand, admission to the WWJ was terminated in 1886, and two years later the courses were completely closed.

The second discovery

For the second time, the IMF, the future pedagogical institute, was opened ten years later, but on the initiative of the state. The Ministry of Education partially funded the establishment and operation of an educational institution. Since 1900 the duration of the educational process has been increased to 4 years. Two branches were available for training: physical-mathematical and historical-philological. In 1906 medical education became available for women, for which the medical faculty was opened.

The director of new courses in 1905 was appointed V. Gurnier, after his departure abroad, the director chose Professor V. I. Vernadsky, but at the same time he received the post of director of the Moscow University, in connection with which he could not pay attention to MWVK. New elections followed, and as a result, SA Chaplygin became the head of the women's courses.

Your home for courses

In 1905 the city government of Moscow attended to the construction of a separate building of the educational building of women's courses. For good purposes, the site was allocated to the Maiden Field. In the summer of 1907 construction was started. The author of the project was S.U. Soloviev. A year later, the corps of the first departments was opened - anatomical theater and physico-chemical faculty. In 1913, the auditor corps, now the main building of the Moscow State University (formerly MGPI named after Lenin), was opened.

The educational institution was constantly developing, the funds were replenished with allowances, so in 1913 for the MZHVK the zoological collection of AF Kots was acquired, which later grew to the Darwin Museum (Vavilov Street). Since 1915 the Moscow Higher Women's Courses have begun to issue diplomas on the basis of final examinations. The number of students in 1916 reached 8300 people, the greater number of students studied only at Moscow State University. Thus, in the post-revolutionary year 1918, the Higher Women's Courses in Moscow became the largest educational institution of the higher school of the Russian Empire.

After the revolution

In September 1918, MZHVK received a new status and name, becoming the Second Moscow State University. In 1921, the Second Moscow State University opened the Pedagogical Faculty, which became decisive in the further development of the university. In 1930, education received a modern direction and the corresponding name - the Pedagogical Institute.

At the dawn of activity in the training of pedagogical cadres, the institute bore the name of the People's Commissar of Education. It was called MGPI them. Bubnov, and later the university was named after Lenin (until 1997). In the memory of many generations, the name "Leninsky Pedagogical Institute" is still alive.

For the years of the war, two Moscow universities - the defectology institute and the industrial-pedagogical name of K.
