Motorcycle family "Java-350"

The name of this two-wheeled vehicle has nothing to do with the Indonesian island of the same name. The word JAWA (Java) is a derivative on behalf of the first owner of the former arms factory, Frantisek Janicek, and the German firm Vanderer, from whom, in 1929, he acquired equipment and a license for the production of motorcycles. Then the first motorcycle "Java-500 OHV" was released.

A large family of "three hundred and fiftieth"

The name "Java-350" is not the name of any one particular model, but the name of a whole family of motorcycles equipped with an engine with a working volume of 350 cm 3 .

The first motorcycle "Java-350 CV" appeared back in 1934. He had a motor with a lower valve arrangement. It had a good power for those times, 12 liters. With., He could develop a speed of 100 km / h with a fuel consumption of 3.5 liters per 100 km.

A year later on "Java" began to install more powerful engines (15 hp.) With the upper arrangement of the valves. This model, called "Java-350 OHV" was produced until 1948 (except for the war years).

After the war, the motorcycles "Java" began to be equipped with two - cylinder two - stroke engines of a new generation, the work on which was conducted during the war years by the engineers of the German firm DKW. Produced from 1948 to 1955. The motorcycle "Yava-350 Ogar" type 12 (later called "Perak type 12") enjoyed a deserved recognition of buyers against the backdrop of the postwar increase in demand for two-wheeled vehicles.

In 1953, another motorcycle of the 350-th family "Java" appeared - type 354, in which for the first time the combined pedal of a gear change with a handle kickstarter was used. In addition, this motorcycle received a new chassis and engine. In 1962, the 354th type underwent considerable modernization.

In 1965, another modernization of the "Java" motorcycle was made, as a result of which a new family "Java-350" - type 360 appeared. The new model was released in 1969. It became "Java-350 Californian IV" - type 362. The following modification occurred a year later. Then the model of the three hundred and fiftieth "Java" - 633/1 Bizon was released, in which a new frame, made on the spine type, as well as separate lubrication of the engine was installed. However, the new design of the "Bison" for some reason did not please the customers, and so in 1973 the plant started producing a motorcycle "Java-350" - type 634, which was installed a new engine capacity of 19 liters. from. And a closed frame of duplex type.

In 1984, a new model of the three hundred and fiftieth "Java" -type 638-came off the assembly line, on which a 23-liter power plant was assembled. from. And a new electrical equipment of 12 V (on all previous models, the voltage was 6 V). The 638th model was repeatedly modified, and then on its basis the following families of the motorcycle - type 639 and type 640, the last of which is produced to date - were produced.

Tuning "Java-350" has changed both in the interior of the motorcycle, and in its filling (disc front brakes, electric starter, separate lubrication system), thus relieving domestic "kulibin" from the need to make any significant improvements to an already reliable device .

In 2009, by the 80th anniversary of the plant, the model of the three hundred and fiftieth "Java" - "Lux" was issued. Changes affected mainly the appearance: it was decided to return to the classic style - a round headlamp, an abundance of chrome parts, etc. In addition, changes were made to the braking system and the suspension system.

"Java" in the USSR

In the USSR, the production of associates in the socialist camp began to be delivered in 1955. These were motorcycles with a volume of both 250 and 350 cm 3 . The model "Java-350", the characteristics of which were more suitable for our conditions, became the most popular among motorists of the former sixth part of the world. These motorcycles were equipped with a well-proven 350 cc engine , spiked wheels, a small fairing with a rectangular headlight, a front disc brake.

The well thought-out and tested design of the motorcycle has proved its reliability in its operation in any road conditions: in the city, on country roads, in various climatic conditions. Soviet motorcyclists very much liked the strong steel frame, designed for carrying capacity of almost 200 kg, the possibility of using a side trailer, as well as the availability of a separate lubrication system, which eliminates the need to add oil to gasoline. In addition, some specimens were supplied with an electric starter.

Even the ever-increasing supplies and considerable cost (in the mid-seventies the official cost exceeded 700 rubles) did not prevent the motorcycle from becoming a scarce commodity, and it took a lot of effort to acquire it.
