Military ranks of the United States - what are their characteristics?

About the army of the United States of America, most of us are from the movies, in which the military knows neither reproach, nor fear, nor pride. Attentive people probably noticed that the military ranks of the United States are quite different from the Russian ones. For example, a Russian sergeant is the same soldier, but has a little more power, and the captain is a low rank of an officer. And if you look at the same titles, but only in the US, it turns out that they have a sergeant who is a big and powerful person, and the captain is something distant, almost transcendental.

Military ranks of the US Army have a fairly large sergeant staff (6 ranks). The sergeant major and the command sergeant-major, whom many call posts rather than titles, are sergeants in the army leadership who try to protect their interests, and at the same time their bosses. Also, US military ranks are the chief sergeant of the command (for each type of army and in all large units of the army one at a time) and the chief sergeant of the army (in the committee of the chief of staff). Probably, many have already noticed that the American army is characterized by double ranks. One of them is permanent, the other is temporary. For example, if a second lieutenant is appointed as commander of a company, he is immediately assigned a temporary captaincy. After a while he "grows" to the rank of first lieutenant, then to the captain. And so - as long as the permanent title does not coincide with the temporary one.

Now let's look at other US military ranks.

The army general is the highest military rank in the States. His analogue in other countries are the marshal and the field marshal. As a rule, it is appropriated during the war.

The Commodore is a rank belonging to the officers. This is a step more than the captain, but less counter-admiral. It was abolished in 1899, but when the Second World War began, some US military ranks were temporarily restored, among them the Commodore.

Master sergeant is a member of the sergeant of the US Army and many other countries. This rank is on the eighth place of the military hierarchy.

The first sergeant is a rank belonging to the sergeant staff of the US Army. This is almost the same as the master sergeant.

Private first class - a simple rank of a conscript or a higher rank for an ordinary soldier. It is the third rank in the land forces. It is located between the ordinary and corporal (or specialist).

Sergeant first class - refers to the sergeant composition of the US Army and several other countries. Takes seventh place in the ranks, between the staff sergeant and the first sergeant or master sergeant.

The sergeant-major (land forces) is a rare military rank, which belongs to the sergeant's staff.

Specialist - this is the rank of rank-and-file army of the United States. It is like the rank of corporal, but only does not belong to the sergeant's staff.

The senior lieutenant is the younger officer in the army of many countries, including Russia.

Staff sergeant - the rank of the army, part of the sergeant's staff. In the US, it stands on the sixth level and is between the rank of sergeant and sergeant of the first class.

In addition, US military ranks have one more, called conditional, term - cadet. He is a student of the Military Academy of the United States of America "West Point".
