MAZ 5335: specifications, photos and modifications

MAZ stands for Minsk Automobile Plant. At the same time, Minsk is the only city in the Soviet Union that has two plants related to transport. There is also a tractor factory in the city. The distinctive emblem of MAZ carries many types of transport. These are buses, trolleybuses and a whole family of trucks. All known truck KAMAZ its car-free configuration was just from the Minsk plant, to be exact, from the 500 series, the logical continuation of which was the MAZ 5335.

The history of the plant is considered to be from the post-war years, but its first buildings appeared during the Great Patriotic War. It is in the territory of the current MAZ that the Germans built a repair factory for Wehrmacht vehicles. The war ended, after it the plant was rebuilt, the production of the YaMZ 200 vehicles, the first post-war trucks, was transferred here. The version with the wheel formula 4х2 left in Minsk. Three-axle trucks Yaroslavl transferred to Kremenchug, KrAZ trucks were assembled at their base. Since then, Yaroslavl is engaged only in motors. YaMZ engines were put on almost all the trucks of the Union, including the MAZ 5335, the hero of today's review.

Birth of the 500th

After receiving the 200th model from Yaroslavl, Minsk citizens slightly updated it, and under the MAZ 200 index it was mass-produced until 1957. In February, the Minsk plant received a decree from the Ministry of Automobile Industry to develop a new car. And although the plant continued to produce MAZ 200, in the same year, the development of a new model, which received the index 500, began to develop at full speed. All subsequent versions, and Minsk did not plan to stop only one on-board truck, should receive indices beginning at 50 For example, the dump truck was to receive an index of 503, a tractor - 504, etc. (501 and 502 remained at the drawing stage).

New solution

It should be noted that the trucks of those years were built on a principle that later became known as the "classic". First, the power unit is placed on the frame - it is the engine and control system, then the cab, only after that the main part of the truck - the body is installed through the gap. Want more cargo - make the frame longer.

It is easy to see that the 500 model shown in the figure above is assembled on a different basis. Minsk decided to try a new version - intermediate, when the cab was moved to the power unit, as a result of which it was possible to install a longer body on the frame. But in the final project went the third option, and it is he who uses the car MAZ 5335 and all subsequent development of trucks in the Union. In the new version, the engine was under the cab, and for repair it leaned forward. This layout had several positive qualities, one of which was an increase in the carrying capacity of almost 2000 kg; The second advantage was that the length of the frame remained unchanged.

Running variants

In 1960, the MAZ 200P and MAZ 200M (respectively, onboard and tractor) appear. Collected over the next 5 years, they receive some new developments that are planned for the 500th model. The first production model 500 comes off the assembly line in March 1965, and in December of the same year, the 200th edition is officially closed. The last car goes on a pedestal and becomes a monument at the factory exhibition.

Start production

The next version of the new 500-th model was released in 1970. The code name is MAZ 500A. Its main difference was a more modern checkpoint. In addition, the machine included many small fixes, but in the total it turned out to be a car, slightly smaller than the prototype in size, but larger in load capacity and maximum speed. Over the next few years, the plant collects feedback and wishes from the owners of the modified versions of the 500 model, and in 1977 the following model appears - the on-board truck MAZ 5335.

This model externally repeated 500A (except for one part, about which - below), but inside it was a completely different car. The safety increased thanks to a separate brake system, the comfort of the cabin increased, some details changed, as a result of which all the technical and economic parameters of the machine improved.

External difference

In response to customer requests, as well as for harmonization with European standards, the plant had to change the external characteristics of the MAZ 5335. The changes mainly concerned the appearance of the cabin, the other parameters were changed from version 500A. Firstly, a sign of a road train appeared on the roof, which led to the disappearance of hatches on it. The second, and most importantly, the change touched optics. The headlights moved into the bumper. This setup solved two problems at once. The high setting of the headlights of previous cars in the dark created a problem for oncoming vehicles. Moving headlights solved this issue, in addition, the new position gave a better illumination of the roadway.

As a result of this modification, the radiator grille of the new MAZ 5335 has become wider, but only visually. Dimensions of the radiator remained the same as on the first machines of the 500th model. Expansion is a props. The metal plug under the turn signals closes the empty places where the headlights used to be.

Modifications 5335

With the exception of several separate models, all the machines developed earlier on the basis of the on-board truck received new indexes.

  • The new generation truck tractor received the index 5429.
  • The dump truck received 5549.
  • The revised chassis for the installation of other bodies received an index of 5534.

Almost invariable indices remained for two models, this is a timber carrier - model 509. The second model, which received a new symbol after the modification in the old name, is worth mentioning separately. Except for one feature, it was all the same MAZ 5335.

The weight of this model was one third more than that of the on-board truck, and amounted to approximately 25,000 kg. This machine was designed as a reinforced version of the base, and it became the only tri-ax model of the Minsk car factory. At the same time, it was the first car, which realized the possibility of lowering the rear axle. Development on the basis of the 500 models was named 516. On the basis of the 5335 it turned into 516B (sometimes referred to as 516A).

Filling

Mentioning about the enhanced version, it's time to consider the parameters of the main model - MAZ 5335. The technical characteristics of the car changed several times, but in the end the plant stopped at the following:

  • Carrying capacity - 8000 kg, permissible trailer weight - 12000.
  • Length - 7140 mm, width - 2500, ground clearance - 290 mm.
  • The maximum speed of 85 km / h is provided by diesel YaMZ 236 (piston diameter 130 mm, working stroke - 140 mm) with a working volume of 11.5 liters.
  • The volume of the tank is 200 liters.
  • The fuel consumption is 22 liters per 100 km.

Depending on the model, these characteristics may vary slightly. For example, the version 5549 (dumper) width, like the length, will be slightly larger.

But in general, the characteristics of all modifications repeat the specifications of the basic, which is an on-board truck. Coupling MAZ 5335, like some other parts, is omitted not by chance. A dry two-disc principle is used, which allows switching gears under load, which passed from the first models of the 500 series.

Conclusion

Trucks of the 500th model are rightly considered the brightest page in the history of the Minsk Automobile Plant. It was a completely own development of the Minsk citizens, which gave the start to the subsequent works, the first of which was MAZ 5335. The photo of this truck was presented above, in the review, but in general, this version was not something special. Nevertheless, it became a model that allows Minsk trucks to appear on the roads of Europe.
