The capital of Moldova is Chisinau

Infinite fields of sunflowers, pastoral villages, green hills, impregnated with an indescribable charm, a calm surface of lakes - all this is the state of Moldova, whose capital - Chisinau - stands on seven large hills along the river called Bull.

Among other things, the Republic of Moldova is known for its wines, which are obtained from, perhaps, the best varieties of grapes in the whole of Europe.

The warm and dry climate of this small country allowed the local population to engage in large-scale fruit growing, including viticulture. It is no accident that Moldova is called a country of winemaking and boundless vineyards. Here, just a few kilometers from its capital, is located and the world's largest basement of wine, considered a kind of starting point for the extremely popular today's so-called "wine tours". It is a real city with street labyrinths, the length of which in the aggregate reaches almost sixty kilometers.

The capital of Moldova was founded at the beginning of the fifteenth century. And from that time its history is saturated with very different in its significance events. Historical Chisinau makes its central part. A long time in these limits fit the whole city, whereas today it is only a small part of it, surrounded by a ring of modern buildings.

Despite the small cozy streets, seated with greenery, reminiscent of a more provincial town, the capital of Moldova is considered a great transport hub. In the Second World many of its ancient buildings were destroyed, but many of the rich and ancient cathedrals and buildings still survived. And today many tourists come here to admire the greatness of local architecture.

There are many green areas in Chisinau , such as the squares of the Cathedral, Valya-Trandafirilor and Valya-Morilor parks with beautiful lakes and park sculptures.

The capital of Moldova is famous for one of its most interesting sights - the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin, built in its historical center.

Many residential buildings and structures that have an administrative purpose, have the imprint of an old urban history. In many details of decorative finishes, the style of the creations of such eminent architects of past centuries as A.Shusev and A. Bernardazzi is noticeable.

Chisinau is not only the capital, but also the largest city in Moldova. Geographically, it is located right in the center of the country.

There are many versions associated with the emergence of its name. Some translate it from Polovtsian as a "cave", others claim the Hungarian roots of its name, but the most common version, which received its true name of the capital of Moldova, is the Old Roman word translated as "a new source".

Another attraction of the city is the Chisinau lake with stunningly picturesque shores - a favorite place for the townspeople. There is also the current Green Theater, and the Exhibition of Achievements.

There are a lot of military memorials in Chisinau, there is also a monument to Alexander Pushkin. The great poet in the republic is well known: he spent several years of his exile in these parts.

The capital of Moldova has a second name - "White City". And this is not surprising, since the buildings in it were mostly built of white limestone.
