Pages of history: the pre-war period

The University of Maxim Tank arose, we can say, on social demand. At the beginning of the last century, there was a great need for teachers in the Minsk province, but the pedagogical educational institutions of the nearby towns, Vitebsk and Mogilev, could not satisfy it. The Emperor Nicholas II himself wanted to cope with this problem himself, who in 1914 issued a decree on the need to open an institute in Minsk in which teachers would be trained.

In the early years of its existence, the future university named after Maxim Tank faced some financial difficulties. There was one small building that could hardly accommodate students, and there was not enough furniture and books for everyone. However, the university has endured difficulties. Unfortunately, the first building of it was not preserved, although it is for certain known that it was located where the park named after Yanka Kupala is located in Minsk now.

The future university of Maxim Tank - at first he bore the name of Maxim Gorky - for a while belonged to the Belarusian State University. It became an independent educational institution only in 1931. And in the late 1930s the university was closed down and continued its activities only in 1944.

Minsk Tank University after the Great Patriotic War

In 1946, the school moved to a new building. It still exists and is located inside the main building. The hall and the entrance to the Maxim Tank University are the old building. Over it in 1989, built a dozen new floors. So we know it today.

The new name - the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank - was established in 1995, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Under this name, it still exists. What kind of university is now, in the new millennium?
