History

The history of the airport begins in 1960, when the first runway was laid. It was paved with nothing more than steel sheets. But in 4 years the local government decided to replace the cover with asphalt. In 1966, a new strip of the island state of the Maldives was ready for operation. The airport got the status of international only in 15 years.

To date, 25 airlines operate regular or charter flights to Male airport. Maldives, as many know, are a welcome country for many tourists. The aircraft come here from 27 major cities, such as: Moscow, Berlin, London, Rome, Colombo, Amsterdam, Vienna, Delhi, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok.
