Building

History

During the Second World War the station was also called "Sverdlov Square". In those years the Teatralnaya metro station served as an air-raid shelter. In the mid-70's. The central interchange node has undergone a reconstruction. As a result, there were two transitions. The first led to the station "Revolution Square", and the second - to the "Okhotny Ryad." From the metro station "Teatralnaya" and today you can go to the Sokolniki or Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya lines.

In 1990, the Theater Square was returned to its original name. Renamed the metro station. However, the traces of the letters that formed the old name have survived to this day.

Architectural features

Metro "Teatralnaya" refers to a deep station (35 m). The design is three-leaved, pylon. When creating the plan, Ivan Fomin used the technologies he applied for the first time when designing the Krasnye Vorota station. Although the metro station "Teatralnaya" originally had a different name, in the design, he focused on theatrical themes.

The interior of the station is similar to the Melpomene temple, reminding the inhabitants of the city and tourists about architectural and historical monuments located on the surface. The vaults of the central hall are decorated with diamond-shaped caissons. The lower row of them is decorated with decorative inserts made of porcelain. All this is sustained in the theatrical style of the peoples of the USSR.

Figures that can be seen on the roof of the central hall, have a height of about a meter. Each of them depicts a character in a national costume, dancing or playing a musical instrument. When the project was created, in the USSR included only 11 republics. Here are 7 of them. Figures were created according to the sketches of the sculptor-ceramist Natalya Danko at the Leningrad Porcelain Factory.

The design of the station is dominated by light colors. To the arches hanging lamps of crystal in a bronze frame. Above the benches and in the recesses are the sconces with the spherical plafonds. In the central hall the floor is faced with black plates made of gabbro.
