So this object is indicated on the city map today. He first appeared on it in 1934. The natural park was founded by the famous Soviet scientist SS Stankov, the head of the Botany Department at the Gorky University. According to the scientist's plan, the botanical garden was to become the base for the department headed by him and allow him to conduct research in many areas.

In the fact that the city today has such a unique facility, the botanical garden, Nizhny Novgorod is largely indebted to the then president of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, N. I. Vavilov, who warmly supported the initiative of his colleague. The great Russian scientist helped to ensure the delivery to the conservatories of the botanical garden of many thermophilic crops from the southern regions of the country and abroad. Mail regularly delivered small boxes with plant seeds from all over the Soviet Union and from many countries of the world to the address: the city of Gorky (so in those years was called Nizhny Novgorod), the Botanical Garden. These seeds have safely ascended, and some continue to grow to this day.

Today

The natural landscape park covers an area of about 35 hectares. In the center of it there is a greenhouse complex and an arboretum built in the 1930s. It is surrounded by a large forest, consisting mainly of broad-leaved trees. Among them are many centuries-old oaks and limes. Such an organic combination of the relict forest with the tree plantations was originally conceived by Professor Stankov, who founded the botanical garden. Nizhny Novgorod since ancient times included this oak grove, it has long been a city landmark. Since then, the entire territory has the official status of a natural monument and is protected from unauthorized interference.

Dendrological department of the botanical garden has in its composition about one and a half thousand different trees and shrubs gathered from many corners of the world and managed to settle down in the uneasy climatic conditions of the middle belt. Very interesting is the old orangery with a lot of tropical and subtropical species. Some of the relic species represented here are on the verge of extinction in conditions of their natural growth. Despite significant financial difficulties, the botanical garden lives and works. Here people like to spend time simple townspeople, many this place consider as the most favorite in all city. And they can be understood, it really is good - a luxurious flora, a botanical garden. Nizhny Novgorod (photo of this natural corner can be seen in the article) is rightfully proud of this object. His images are adorned with many publications devoted to the old Russian city on the Volga.
