Makhachkala: attractions and photos

One of the largest scientific and cultural centers in the North Caucasus region is Makhachkala. Attractions of this city attract tourists from different parts of Russia and not only. Museum of History of Makhachkala

To begin acquaintance with the city, perhaps, is worth visiting the Museum of History. Despite the fact that it is the youngest, one can learn a lot about the history and culture that Makhachkala is famous for. Sights of this city begin with this museum.

The object was opened in honor of the 150th anniversary of the city and is located in the building of the Memorial complex near the lake Ak-Gel. It is worth noting that the museum opened with zero funds, which is quite unusual. However, after 5 years, its halls were filled with numerous exhibits, which appeared thanks to the efforts of both employees and citizens. Today in the museum you can see the subjects of ethnography, archeology, as well as a collection of old photographs. Thus, this cultural object perfectly fulfills the originally assigned to it function of preserving and popularizing the cultural and historical heritage of Makhachkala.

Theaters

Considering the sights of the city of Makhachkala, it is worth paying attention to the theaters located on its territory. So, on the prospectus of R. Gamzatov, 38 is Laksky Music and Drama Theater, which was opened in 1935 and named after E. Kapiev. In the postwar years, the theater held productions under the direction of professional directors invited from neighboring cities - this greatly increased the artistic level of the theater, the location of which is Makhachkala.

Attractions for lovers of theatrical art also include the Avar Music and Drama Theater, which was founded in 1935. Its founder and first director was A. Magaev, which was joined by P. Shiyanovsky and A. Artemov. In 1951 the theater was moved to Buinaksk, where he was given the name of G. Tsadasa. However, in 1968 he was again returned to Makhachkala, where he is today.

Do not forget about the city and the youngest viewers, who may not be so interested in the attractions of Makhachkala, but they are happy to see an interesting performance. For them, the Puppet Theater is located here, located on Gamzatova Avenue, 40.

City mosque

To the religious objects of the city, worthy of attention, is the Central Juma mosque, the prototype of which is the Istanbul "Blue Mosque". This object was erected in 1996 with the funds of one rich Turkish family and is one of the largest in Europe. On its territory can hold about 17 000 people. According to Imam Magomedrasul Saaduyev, there are no analogs of this shrine throughout the entire USSR.

Holy Dormition Cathedral

Juma mosque is not the only shrine of such a city as Makhachkala. Sights of a religious nature also include the Holy Dormition Cathedral, which is the only Orthodox church in the city. He was raised in 1906. And in 1969 the church was given the iconostasis from the Moscow church of St. Archangel Gabriel. Since 1988 the cathedral is under state protection as a monument of local importance.

Historical and Architectural Museum

It was created in 1923 on the initiative of the Russian physician I. Kostemerevsky. He dreamed of opening a museum and for this purpose in 1891 bequeathed a significant part of his personal savings. However, his idea was implemented only after 22 years, when the total amount, thanks to interest, increased to the size necessary for the creation of the museum.

But during the Civil War, almost all the collections were lost. The restoration of the museum began only in 1923. Some of the exhibits were transferred from the museums of Russia and Georgia. The population of such a city as Makhachkala also took an active part in the restoration. Sights are always interested in the townspeople. Thanks to these efforts, the museum now has 16 collections, including 140,000 exhibits, including firearms and cold steel, works of fine art, ethnographic items, etc.

Monuments: photos and descriptions

Many interesting monuments have on its territory Makhachkala. Sights, photos of which you can post in your album after visiting this city, will be an excellent reminder of an interesting excursion. And among them there will most likely be a monument to Leo Tolstoy, executed in the form of a large open book. The creator of this landmark, located at the crossroads of M. Hajiyev and L. Tolstoy, is Dagestan sculptor Sh. Karagadzhiev.

On the station square you can see the monument to Mahach Dahadayev, which was installed in 1971. It was in his honor in 1920 that the city of Port Petrovsk was renamed Makhachkala.

Another famous monument of the city is the sculpture of the five-time world champion and on freestyle wrestling - Ali Aliyev. The monument was erected in 1998 near the building of the sports complex.
