Magnificent Copenhagen - the capital of Denmark

Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark. Located in the Öresund strait, dividing Denmark and Sweden and connecting the Baltic and North Seas, the city occupies a flat coastal lowland and part of the Amager Island with numerous canals. The city is a cultural and educational center of Denmark with a lot of museums, parks and cafes. If you are thinking about where to go on a trip, be sure to pay attention to Copenhagen. The capital of a European country will pleasantly surprise you, so it's worth a visit.

In the late XVII - early XVIII centuries the aristocracy of Copenhagen was one of the richest in Europe, and the Danish trading companies had their colonies around the world. Many historical monuments in the city were erected during this period.

Monuments to the famous Danes

On the outskirts of Town Hall Square a monument to the Danish fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen is erected. Curiously, the sculpture has smooth, shiny knees, as children often sit on them to take pictures. Nearby is the town hall of the early XX century in the neo-Renaissance style with a gilded statue to Bishop Absalon, who founded Copenhagen. The capital of Denmark is famous for its tower with the height of more than 100 meters with the famous World Clock. The largest square in Copenhagen is the New King Square (Cogens Nyutorv) - famous for the equestrian statue of King Christian V, who ruled Denmark and Norway in the 17th century. It was installed during the lifetime of the king.

Four Palaces

In addition to the royal palace of Christiansborg, the city also houses the Charlottenborg Palace, where the Royal Academy of Fine Arts has been located for more than 200 years. The Royal Palace Amalienborg is a palace ensemble in the Baroque style of the mid-18th century, where the monarch's residence is still located. And in the Royal Park is located the Rosenborg Palace with three impressive Renaissance towers - the summer residence of Christian IV. Today in the building is a museum of the royal dynasty.

In parks and gardens

Located between the citadel moat and the port, the Langelins promenade is the most popular place for walking in the wonderful city of Copenhagen. The capital is rich in green parks, which are located next to the embankment. In the botanical garden you can visit the delightful palm garden, the greenhouse and the museum of minerals and stones. Nearby are the observatory. And yet nothing compares to the popularity of the Tivoli entertainment park, located in another part of the city.

Mansion of the XVII century

The Nybodera estate with narrow rows of yellow houses was built in the middle of the 17th century by Christian IV for 600 families of sailors who served in the navy. This is one of the oldest residential areas - laconic and strikingly simple. The buildings of this area have become one of the attractions that famous Copenhagen is famous for. The capital annually hosts a huge number of tourists who want to see the historical places of this beautiful city.

The legendary goddess Gefion

At the entrance to the Churchill Park there is a fountain Gethion (1908), reminiscent of the emergence of the largest island of Denmark - Zealand. According to this legend, the goddess of fertility, Gephion, was to find the land for her father, the god Odin. Swedish King Gyulfi promised to give her as much land as she could plow in one day and one night. The goddess turned her four sons into bulls and dug up most of the land, turning her into an island. The resulting cavity was filled with water - so there was Lake Venus.

Among the places of Copenhagen worth seeing are Borsen (the building of the 17th-century stock exchange), the Grundtvig Church, the new glyphtotek of Karlsberg, the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's museum, the writer Karen Blixen and the Guinness Book of Records Museum.

This is not a complete list of attractions of the magnificent European city of Copenhagen. Which country's capital can boast of such a diverse variety of historical places and cultural monuments?
