Lunacharsky Theater (Sevastopol): repertoire, troupe

The Lunacharsky Theater (Sevastopol) exists since the beginning of the 20th century. Residents of the city were waiting for this event with great impatience. Before that, there was only a summer theater in the city, and spectators were deprived of the opportunity to attend performances during the winter.

History of the theater

For a long time its stationary troupe did not have the city of Sevastopol. The Lunacharsky Theater was opened in 1911. Then it was called otherwise. It was the Great Art Theater "Renaissance". It was located on Primorsky Boulevard. At first, on the stage of the theater, performances were shown by artists who had come on tour. Somewhat later, his own troupe appeared. It was headed by ASNikulichev.

In 1920, the power in the city was captured by the Revolutionary Committee. The department of public education was headed by the then opera singer LVSobinov. It was on his initiative that the theater was named after AV Lunacharsky and the name "Renaissance" was abolished.

From 1925 to 1927 an invited Moscow troupe worked here, thanks to which the repertoire of the theater was enriched with interesting productions.

Since 1935, for 20 years the main director was BA. Bertels. With his appearance, the theater entered a new stage. B. Bertels was one of the best directors of the country.

During the war, the artists created a brigade, which gave performances on the front line. The Lunacharsky Theater gave more than a thousand front-line concerts. Many young actors went to the front. Few of them returned. In memory of them in Sevastopol streets are named. During the war, the building of the theater was destroyed by a fascist bomb.

Since 1945, artists have given performances in the building of the former Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. In 1957, the theater had a new building, in which it is located to this day. The auditorium here is designed for 670 seats. The building was built according to the project of the architect VVPilevina. The first production, played in the new building was Vsevolod Vishnevsky's play "Optimistic tragedy".

In 2002, the Lunacharsky Theater (Sevastopol) received the academic status. Photo of the building is presented in this article.

They made it in Moscow for a special order for the subway. Up to now, the name of the artist who created the project of this luminary has not come down. The second such chandelier is not present, it unique in its own way. Its weight is one and a half tons. The diameter is 5 meters. The chandelier is equipped with a lifting mechanism, which is located in the attic of the theater.
