Lodeynoe Pole: Reviews of tourists

Peter is not only the Northern Capital of the Federation, but also the center of the region, in which are important from the point of view of culture and history of the city. One of these centers is Lodeynoye Pole. It is located 244 km from St. Petersburg, if you move in the Northeast direction.

History of creation and development

The erection of the Lodeinoye Field began in 1702 under the decree of the Emperor Peter I. It was he who at one time drew attention to the dense pine forests on the banks of the Svir River and decided that it was necessary to build a shipyard on the left high bank. It became known as Olonets. It was with her that the imperial warships were the first to enter the Baltic Sea . Abolition of the Olonets shipyard was only in 1830.

During its existence in 1785, they began to lay a county town called Lodeynoye Pole. In the second part of the XIX century, several woodworking enterprises were established there, at that time it became the center of the wood trade on Svir. But in the twentieth century, there was built the Nizhnesvirskaya HPP, which was actively used in 1933.

In addition, the timber industry was developing well in Lodeynoye Pole , building materials plants, food and pottery enterprises were built. But at present, the pace of industrial development has significantly decreased, many local residents are leaving to work in more prosperous areas.

Military Glory

Despite the fact that Lodeinoe Pole is a sparsely populated town (it can count about 20 thousand inhabitants), he managed to become famous during the Patriotic War. It was on Sviri with the active participation of local residents that an insurmountable line for the Finns was created. Enemy armies settled on different sides of the river and lasted almost three years. And only at the beginning of the summer of 1944 was the Svir-Petrozavodsk operation carried out, which forced the Finns to retreat. Thanks to the cunning of the military and the powerful artillery preparation, the Soviet military crossed the river a little below the Lodeinoe Field and occupied the front line on which the Finns held.

sights

It is worth noting that Lodeynoye Pole is not too spoiled by the attention of tourists. But wanderers, who came to the city even for a short time, do not regret their decision. Of course, it practically does not differ from the mass of similar small northern towns, but it has a more saturated history, so it is interesting.

In general, this place is used either as a temporary transfer point, or simply pass by the railroad laid at the beginning of the 20th century. By the way, many believe that it is thanks to its creation that Lodeinoe Pole exists. Trains, following their routes, pass through the whole city. The railway is located so that they are forced to go around it to get to the big bridge, thrown through the Svir.

Travelers who got into this district center can look at the stele, installed in 1832 on the site of Peter I's house. Also in the city is a monument erected in honor of the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. To the ancestors did not forget about this terrible period, the memorial park "Svirskaya Pobeda" remained in Lodeynoye Pole. In it everyone can see real military dugouts, trenches, dugouts and lay flowers at the monument, designed to glorify the heroes.

The monument, established in honor of the 300th anniversary of the city, may also interest many guests who have come to Lodeynoye Pole. St. Petersburg, by the way, is the same age as this district center. But, despite the same age, it is difficult to find something in common between them.

Important story

In the local museum of local lore one can learn about the life of prisoners in the "Svirlag" correctional labor camp. It was a special place, it was considered one of the most terrible Soviet concentration camps. "SvirlAG" existed for six years, during this time 70 thousand political prisoners passed through it. In these northern conditions, prisoners, among whom there were quite a few religious people, were forced to walk half-naked. Nutrition was established at the limit of clinical hunger.

It was here that the archbishops of Volokolamsk Theodore and Belyaev Augustin, Obolenskaya Kira, the Grand Duchess, the nun Veronica, the priest Sergei Mechev, the philosopher Alexei Losov, who was privately tonsured monk, were known to the Holy Martyrs.

But such a terrible story did not prevent the development of religion on the Lodeinopolsk land. In 1989, the first Orthodox community began to operate, the church at that time was a house donated for these purposes by a believing woman by Varvara.

Religious pilgrimage

In addition to the first small church, in Lodeynoye Pole there is a chapel of Saint Miracle-worker Nicholas. It is very interesting from an architectural point of view, it resembles the silhouette of a ship and, accordingly, the coat of arms of the city - a rook from the time of Peter the Great. In the 90's the church of the Apostles Paul and Peter was built. It is not far from the place where the Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in 1843, which, unfortunately, was destroyed under Soviet rule. Only one icon of Archangel Michael survived from him . By the way, in the church of Peter and Paul there is an image of Panteleimon the Healer, on the reverse side of which you can see the inscription that he was blessed in the Holy Mount Athos back in 1910.

But often tourists pass the city, without even being interested in its beauties and history, on the way to the more famous male Alexandro-Svirsky monastery. Also, believers often go to the women's Pokrovo-Terevenicheskuyu and Vvedeno-Oyatsk monastery. All the pilgrims tell about the special atmosphere of these places, about the peculiar religious fluids that emanate from the monasteries. And this is achieved not through external shine and pathos, which, in principle, and not, but with the help of religious spirit and deep faith of the inhabitants.

Natural Beauty

But the area near Lodeynoye Field is interesting not only to believers. One of the main attractions of the region is the Nizhne-Svirsky Reserve, which covers an area of 42,000 hectares. In the North-West of Russia this is considered one of the most attractive places.

Vast areas are covered with untouched forests, marshy massifs, rivers and numerous lakes. The nature in this area is unique: it combines the Baltic landscapes and taiga exotics. In addition, there is an ornithological station in the reserve. But the real peak of tourism begins in the mushroom season. Every year there are more and more visitors. And this is not in vain, because Prisvirie is deservedly considered the most mushroom district of the Leningrad region.

Those who arrived in Lodeynoye Pole must also visit the healing spring, which was once called alive. It was believed that his water heals from diseases and even resuscitates. Experts have found that the combination of phytochemicals in this source is superior in quality to all the famous brands of both popular Caucasian and European waters.

Daily life and leisure

If you decide to go to the reserve or to a monastery and on the way you want to go to this district center, then you will be interested in the hotels of Lodeynoye Polya. Given that this town is small, tourists have little choice. They can settle in either the Green Hill complex or the Svir hotel.

Of course, there are not many entertainment venues in the center, but those who wish can visit the local drama theater, on the basis of which a cinema hall was opened, a museum of local lore, and went to the library in 1905.

Do not bring along food if you are going to Lodeynoye Pole. Shops in the city work regularly, they do not differ from their counterparts in other regional centers of the Russian outback.

Reviews of tourists

Of course, inspired by the description of guidebooks, many seek to see all the sights of the city. But most tourists remain disappointed. Indeed, at present, according to witnesses, many monuments are being destroyed, the city has neither the will nor the means to maintain cultural facilities in a decent state. But the reviews about religious sites, including those located in the monasteries, are excellent. Tourists never tire of talking about the special atmosphere of these places. Also, travelers celebrate unsurpassed natural beauty, because it's not in vain that the Nizhne-Svirsky Reserve was founded in this area.

Those who had to get to these places on trains, do not get tired of remembering the large railway bridge that will be thrown across the Svir River. Also, tourists are pleased to recall the restored train station, which welcomes all visitors with bright colors.

How to get there

At the planning stage of travel, many are interested in how best to get into the city. Many, of course, prefer to travel by train. During the railway trip you can enjoy all the beauties of the northern region.

But others choose the motorway St. Petersburg - Lodeynoye Pole. The bus runs between these cities regularly. Several major routes pass through the district center, and more than 20 flights pass daily through the local bus station. But travelers should prepare in advance for a long trip - to go on the highway from St. Petersburg to Lodeinoe Pole 139 km.
