Lada 2116. The project is being completed

In 2004, a secret car Lada 2116 was created in the secret laboratories of JSC AvtoVAZ (in which, however, the doors and windows were open around the clock). The management of the auto giant continued to keep secret until the opening of the summer Moscow Motor Show. Then the general public was presented with a fundamentally new sedan with a powerful 112-horsepower engine and plenty of newfangled options. It's understandable, the car needed to be made particularly valuable, as the cost of the project to create the brand Lada 2116 Silhouette was approaching $ 1 billion.

The car turned out to be large and even a little heavy. This was motivated by assumptions that a demographic boom is about to begin in Russia and large families will need large machines. But the question arises whether a large family needs a speed of 200 km / h, indicated on the speedometer and really possible on good Russian roads. After all, the price of the car is built just on the speed indicators and engine power.

However, the car is not to blame for the fact that some pseudo-political controversy has started around it. Technically, the Lada 2116 is an unquestionably successful engineering development, a front-wheel drive car, disc brakes, both front and rear with ventilation, with hydraulic booster and ABS, the engine is economical, the average expense is only 7 liters of AI-95 gasoline, good tire parameters - 195 / 65P15 or 205 / 55P16. 5-speed manual transmission. Finally, ultra-modern headlight optics and very stylish taillights.

Ten years for the swing, and in 2015 AvtoVAZ should launch the Lada 2116 series. Such assumptions sounded at a press conference in 2005. Well, until everything goes according to plan. Some things have been added to the project from partner agreements with French Reno, some advise from General Motors, the general Lada 2116 line is already traced, the model range will include a sedan (2116 VAZ) and a station wagon (2117 VAZ) And a hatchback (2118 WHA). The latter has already been re-presented, and very successfully, the engine volume has decreased by 0.2 liters, and the power remained the same - 112 hp. And the checkpoint got 6 gears, although why so much hatchback, it's unclear.

A lot of attention in the process of developing the project is being given to the brakes of the new Lada. The technically difficult replacement of brake pads is simplified, for this purpose a universal equipment is created, which allows to change them literally in the field. For two years now, they have been trying to connect electronics for uniform distribution of forces to brake components, the code name for the system is the EBD. And also the mechanism of emergency braking of asthma is introduced. With him, Lada 2116 should stop as if dug in and, of course, get a good push in the ass from the next truck behind it. Do not yawn and keep a distance!

But the most important thing about what AvtoVaz is saying, with bated breath, is getting the highest score for the level of car safety in the EuroNCAP rating. A prestigious European norm that opens the way for any car that has passed the test. And if this result can be achieved by the example of Lada 2116, then $ 1 billion is not wasted, the project will be completed with honor. And Lada 2116, the price of which according to the calculations of economists should not exceed 12 thousand euros, will nevertheless become a family car.
