Korotaev Oleg Georgievich: sports and criminal career

Russian athletes at all times were famous for their high achievements. Many of them were champions not only of their country, but also of various international tournaments of the highest level. Successfully speaking at each such championship, the Russians raised not only their personal authority, but also their entire homeland. Did not become an exception and the famous boxer Oleg Georgievich Korotaev, at one time fought in the square of the ring with the best amateur boxers of his time.

Appearance of light and the beginning of boxing

The legendary fighter was born on September 4, 1949. His native city is Sverdlovsk. Already in his early childhood, he began to engage in boxing under the guidance of coach Anatoly Bogdanov, and a little later his mentor was Alexander Volkov. Entering the university, Korotaev Oleg moved to Moscow, where he continued his trainings and performances. In the capital, the famous trainer Georgy Geroyan already taught him the intricacies of martial arts. Training took place in the sports society "Burevestnik".

Brief description of career

In total, in the amateur ring Korotaev Oleg had 196 fights. In 187 of them he came out victorious, and by knockout he finished the bout 160 times. Just a fantastic result, thanks to which he was recognized as one of the best light heavyweights in the USSR of the 70s of last century. It is noteworthy that after the end of one of the battles in which the Russian once again won, a sports correspondent from England, seeing the manner of the battle of Oleg, called him a "Russian tank".

Superiority of the Old World

In 1973, Korotaev Oleg took part in the only continental tournament for himself - the European Championships. He was in the national team, where such outstanding personalities as Boris Kuznetsov, Vladislav Zasypko, Vyacheslav Lemeshev stood shoulder to shoulder.

Our hero was able to reach the semi-final stage, where he was opposed by the representative of Yugoslavia Mate Parlov. Unfortunately, Oleg lost because of a strong dissection of the eyebrow. However, I still got a bronze medal.

World Championship

In the summer of 1974 Korotaev Oleg went to the world championship in Cuba, which was held for the first time among amateurs that year. The competition was attended by 263 fighters from 45 countries around the world.

Oleg held successful preliminary fights, and already in the semifinal stage fought with the hope of American boxing Leon Spinks, who won. By the way, an American three years later became the absolute champion, taking the title from Mohammed Ali himself.

In the finals, the Russian once again met with Mate Parlov. Already in the first three minutes, Oleg sent Yugoslavia in a knockdown, but due to clashes with his head, Korotaev opened a cut. The fight was stopped, and the victory was given to Parlov. Korotaev was satisfied with the silver medal. After a while, Yugoslav has already become a European champion among the pros, but all his life he considered Oleg to be the heaviest rival in his career. In addition, only the Russian managed to knock down Yugoslavia. Never in my life Mate was on canvas.

Life after boxing

Having finished performances on a ring, the Soviet boxer (the champion of the USSR) has not left the favorite kind of sports. For a while he even held the post of vice-president of the Russian Boxing Association.

According to some reports, the end of his career Korotaeva contributed to his entry into the so-called blacklist. In many respects this was due to his uneasy nature, systematic late workouts, violations of the sports regime. It was also suggested that the decline of his career occurred after he was offered to speak on American soil, and for a lot of money. But since everything happened in the 1970s, this had a very negative impact on Oleg's authority.

Criminal life

In 1977 Oleg Korotaev, a boxer with outstanding physical data, was arrested. The reason for this was a fight with the son of then Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Shchelokov. Oleg was charged with causing serious bodily harm, storing drugs and weapons. The sentence of the court was harsh - five years of imprisonment. Many contemporaries of the athlete believe that the entire criminal case was fabricated. Among the weapons seized during the search were a machete, which Korotaeva received from Fidel Castro himself. The head of the island of Freedom was so impressed with the Russians fighting that he made such a luxurious gift to him. Also it is reliably known that Oleg never used drugs in his life, so many of his friends assume that he was planted.

In 1983, he again had to serve a prison term. And again on charges of damaging human health.

In 1989 Oleg together with his friend gets into a traffic accident. "Lada", which drove friends, crashed into a car, standing without the headlights on. As it turned out later, the car belonged to the embassy of a foreign power. The men were taken to the hospital, where their lives were saved with difficulty. And this time Korotaeva again tried to "sew a term".

Death

Korotaev Oleg Georgievich, boxing for which in the 1990's was already in the past, the last period of his life was spent in the United States. There he opened a travel company with his wife. The business of beginning businessmen went very well.

In 1992, a former sportsman discovered that he was being watched. Perhaps because of this he went abroad. In addition to business, Oleg also actively engaged in charity. It was he who allocated 50 thousand dollars for the treatment of Russian boxer Artemyev.

In the other world Korotaev left on January 12, 1994. That night, he was shot in the back of the head. It happened in New York on Brighton Beach Avenue, where many immigrants from Russia live.

A criminal case was opened, but it was never disclosed. The exact cause of the murder is also hard to be called, but his friends associate it with the commercial activities of the murdered person.

Oleg's funeral was held at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.
