Komsomolets is a submarine that should not have been drowned

"Komsomolets" - a submarine, which is written very much. The submarine had a large number of technical innovations in comparison with analogues. For example, its designers decided to abandon the huge loading hatch, which reduced the strength of the ship. In addition, there was installed a system of blowing tanks at the expense of gas generators, which significantly accelerated the rise from a great depth. "Komsomolets" - a submarine, set a world record for immersion, which was 1032 meters and is not surpassed to our days. In order to ensure the safety of the crew, the submarine was equipped with a rescue chamber, which could float from a depth of up to one and a half kilometers and accommodate all the personnel. Moreover, all seven compartments received firefighting equipment, and in the second and third, rescue zones are organized.

Despite such serious measures that were taken by the builders, on April 7, 1989, the Komsomolets submarine was destroyed. It happened in the Norwegian Sea, about 180 km from Bear Island. As a result of this tragedy, 27 crew members out of 69 were rescued. All the rest were killed. For the investigation, a government group was created, which was supposed to shed light on the reasons for what had happened. However, the result of this work was the conclusion that the Soviet record holder drowned in connection with the banal ignition of electrical wiring, which led to a fire in the stern compartment. Now the ship lies in the same place, at a depth of about 1600 meters.

Along with this, many scientists are still trying to understand why the submarine Komsomolets drowned. The mystery of the death of the submarine and now provokes an active polemic around the world. The pilots participating in the rescue work say that initially they saw two rafts that floated next to the crash site. The sailors were dropped an inflatable boat, which they did not detect even the next time they entered. Moreover, one of the rafts also turned over, and at 17.08 the ship completely went under the water. Approximately half an hour after this, the first part of the crew was raised by the floating fishing base. The rest were extracted from the cold water one by one.

"Komsomolets" - a submarine, whose death caused a real information war between representatives of the military and industrial sectors. There are a number of documents, according to which seamen discovered serious shortcomings already at the first dive. For example, a water chamber tore off a life-saving camera, which it was then necessary to find at the bottom and remake. According to the builders, only the actions of the crew of the submarine, which were incorrect, led to this.

From 1989 to 1998 in the area of the death of the submarine, seven expeditions were conducted, using the inhabited vehicles "Mir" for immersion. The purpose of these works was to seal some compartments in which torpedoes with nuclear heads were located, as well as the installation of measuring equipment. During the last dive, recording and measuring instruments were not detected. They left only anchors with traces of neat slices. There are reasons to assume that they were removed from the robots. And, most likely, this is the work of the Western special services. Whatever it was, "Komsomolets" - a submarine whose date of death in Russia was the Day of Remembrance of the dead submariners.
