Khmelnytsky region ... Probably, many of us have repeatedly heard about the existence of such a region on the territory of Ukraine.

Someone was there in transit, someone went deliberately, for example, to visit one of the best wholesale markets of the country, and there are those who know about its existence only because of the consonance with the name of the famous hetman.

At the same time, not everyone knows that the villages of the Khmelnytsky region are really unique. Purely geographically Khmelnytsky region is in the southwestern Ukraine and is considered the true heart of Podillya.

In general, Podillya is not in vain called borderline and very tolerant territory, a true example of peaceful coexistence of different peoples and religions.

Districts of Khmelnitsky region is a territory where Ukrainians and Russians, Poles and Tatars, Germans and Jews live side by side for centuries. It's hard to imagine that somewhere on the planet there are still lands where peacefully neighbors are churches and synagogues, churches and mosques.

Throughout the region are majestic castles. The most famous of them are in such places as Zhvanets, Satanov, Starokonstantinov, Letychiv, Medzhibozh, Izyaslav. It is impossible not to mention the amazing Old Fortress, located in Kamenetz-Podolsky.

Geographical features

Khmelnytsky region borders on such territorial units of Ukraine as Rivne (north-west), Zhytomyr (north-east), Vinnitsa (east), Chernivtsi (south), Ternopil (west) region.

By the way, the length of this region from north to south is 220 km, and from west to east - 120 km.

Podil Upland (height from 270 to 370 m) is located in the central part of the region. On its territory are the watersheds of the Southern Bug, the Dnieper and the Dniester.

The Volyn Upland (elevation up to 329 m) is in the northwestern part of the region, and the Polesie lowland (height from 200 to 250 m) is in the north.

The highest point of the region is in the south-west. This is the Great Bugachikha mountain. Its height is 409 m.

In general, Khmelnitsky region, Khmelnytsky region in particular, boasts the presence of many rivers. A total of 120, and the length of each of them - more than 10 km.

The Dniester is the largest waterway, the length of which is 160 km. The most significant tributaries are Ushitsa, Zbruch, Southern Bug, Smotrych.

The map of the Khmelnitsky region changed several times. As you know, in the beginning of the Podillia on September 22, 1937, the Kamenetz-Podolsk region was formed, the administrative center of which until 1941 was the city of the same name. And only on January 4, 1954, it was renamed Khmelnitskaya, moving, respectively, and the center.

How many years do people live here? This question is not so easy to answer, as it might seem at first glance.

To date, it is reliably known only that the remains of the oldest monastery in the territory of Podillia, which existed since 13662, were found in Bakot as a result of long excavations. An inscription of the 11th century was found there, indicating the time of its foundation. And this means that the Khmelnitsky region (or rather, its settlements) is one of the oldest in the territory of Ukraine.

There is a legend that at the time of the invasion of the Tatar hordes in the caves monks were hiding, who refused to renounce their faith, and for this they were immured there alive.

People of the older generation will most likely note that this region was once considered one of the most developed in terms of industry. For example, in 1949 in Proskurovskaya (Khmelnytsky) motor transport office began to produce a car "Victory" - the famous taxi beige with a taximeter. Unfortunately, now they can be seen only in the old Soviet films.

Economic development

Today, the economy in the Khmelnytsky region is developing mainly due to its natural wealth. Also today 260 deposits of minerals have been discovered there, thanks to which the porcelain and faience industry effectively functions in the industry and construction materials are being produced.

In the northeast of the region, graphite locations were found, and this automatically caused one of the most promising areas to appear: the development of a mineral resource base.

Also in the center of the Khmelnytsky region, a place is found where red and dark gray granite, diorite, labradorite, saponite clays lie.

In the region there are reserves of medicinal, table and mineral waters, therefore, not only Ukrainians, but also visitors from abroad come here for health improvement.

Today, agricultural and electrical engineering engineering, as well as cement, tobacco, pulp and paper, sugar, alcohol, confectionary and fruit and vegetable canning industries are developing here.

Khmelnytsky region boasts an honorable first place in the production of industrial products. It is known that the local power industry is provided by a powerful and modern nuclear power plant.

Typical features of industry

In this area, the most developed industry is metal processing and mechanical engineering.

Furniture, packaging, building materials, paper, cardboard are produced by the timber and woodworking industries.

Agriculture of the region

It is believed that the natural conditions in the Khmelnytsky region are favorable for the development of agriculture.

In general, according to experts, Khmelnitchin is the region where sugar beet is grown most.

Also one of the most important branches in the agriculture of the region is crop production. The main planting area of the region is occupied by potatoes, winter wheat, barley, oats, peas, corn and buckwheat.

Podillya is very developed gardening. It grows apple, cherry, apricot, pear, cherry, walnuts. Most of the gardens are in the Vinkovetsky, Dunaevets, Novoushitsky and Kamenets-Podolsky districts. Livestock, pig and meat and dairy industries are also very important in the development of agriculture.

In addition, in the Khmelnytsky region, beekeeping, poultry farming, fish farming, sheep breeding and rabbit breeding are engaged.

The density of the population of Khmelnytsky is 66.7 people. Per km². In total, about 1 million people live here.

The national composition is divided into Ukrainians (90%), Russians (6%), Poles (1.6%), Belarusians (0.2%) and Jews (0.1%).

In some areas, the density of the indigenous population reaches up to 100%.
