Kazenoy-Am is a lake, which is a water reservoir. It is located on the border of two republics - Chechen (Cheberloevsky district) and Dagestan (Botlikh region). This adds to this water area uniqueness. Under the law on land management, two thirds of the area of the reservoir belong to the Dagestan Republic. There is a lake in the subalpine meadow belt. It is part of the Sulak River basin . The reservoir is a unique natural hydrological monument.

Lake Kazenoy-Am is located high in the mountains, on the southern slope of the Andijsky Range (1869 m above sea level). It is the largest reservoir in the North Caucasus. The area of the mirror is 2.4 km². This lake is deep, there are pits up to 74 m. From north to south Kazenoy-Am has a length of 2 km, and from west to east - 2.7 km. In some places this lake stretches for a width of up to 735 m. The length of its coastline is 10 km.

Origin of the lake

Lake Kazenoy-Am (Chechnya) has an unusual origin - the dams of the valley of two rivers (Harum and Cauha). It is believed that such a merger and subsequent collapse from the southern part of the Kashkerlam Range occurred as a result of an earthquake. This version is represented by geologists.

The local population has one religious legend, according to which this reservoir was formed. Its essence was that the inhabitants of that area were strong sinners, with the exception of one woman. Somehow the angel came down to the ground and asked this villager to leave the village, because the rest of the inhabitants will be punished for their sins. As soon as the woman and her family moved to another locality, a terrible earthquake occurred, and on the place of this settlement a lake was formed. According to both versions, this reservoir was formed after seismic shocks.

Characteristics of the lake

The main food takes place through underground water and rivers, while the water area does not have a surface runoff. It is believed that the lake replenishes water supplies by those streams that break through the adjacent limestone rocks.

Harsum saturates its northern part, and Kauha - the eastern part. The water level in the lake often fluctuates, and the indicators can vary considerably in both the large and the smaller directions. These changes are not only seasonal, but also perennial (maximum they reach 6-8 m), and depend on the amount of precipitation. The coastal slopes are steep.
