Kaliningrad Railway: stations, borders, length

The Kaliningrad Railway constitutes an important part of the transport connection throughout the entire Kaliningrad region. At the moment, it exists as a branch of JSC Russian Railways. As a separate unit was formed in 1992, after the collapse of the Baltic Railway. Федеральный совет министров. The relevant resolution was issued by the Federal Council of Ministers. The management of the road is in Kaliningrad, at the address: Kievskaya street, house 1.

History

The history of the Kaliningrad railway goes back to the distant 1939. It was then that this section of the railway communication appeared in the territory of East Prussia.

After the Great Patriotic War, part of East Prussia, in particular the territory on which the Kaliningrad region is now located, was transferred to the USSR.

The integration of German railways with Soviet railways began in 1946. Almost all local railway lines, especially those that went to neighboring Poland, were dismantled. On all the other sections of the railway, the lines were crossed to the Russian gauge, which, as is known, is different from the European one since the Tsarist times.

Before the Kaliningrad railroad became a branch of Russian Railways, there was a Kaliningrad branch of the road. Periodically, it was a part of the Lithuanian Railways (during two periods - from 1946 to 1953 and from 1956 to 1963). Between these two periods the Kaliningrad road was part of the Baltic. And since 1963 and already up to the collapse of the Soviet Union was part of the Baltic Railways.

Features

At the same time, all segments of the Kaliningrad railway without exception were not changed. The exception was the sites that provided the transport connection of the region with neighboring states.

Moreover, one such site has survived to this day. On the railway track width of 1435 millimeters, as in Europe, until recently, the Kaliningrad-Gdynia-Berlin train shuttled. The composition did not change the track. Recently, this route was canceled.

Borders of the railway

Since the Kaliningrad region is the only one in Russia that does not border on any other domestic region, the railway communication here is special.

The Kaliningrad railway, whose borders coincide with the state borders of neighboring countries, are in contact with two border railway sections.

This is the Lithuanian Railways. They are on the road from Sovetsk to Pagėgiai and from Chernyshevsky to Kybartai. And also the Polish state railways - on the section from Mamonovo to Branevo. There is one way on it, the tracks on which are different.

Passenger traffic

Only two lines are electrified to the entire Kaliningrad region. The railway equips them under suburban traffic in the area of the regional center. At the same time, there are two locomotive depots in the region . One of them is in Kaliningrad, and the other is in the east of the region, in Chernyakhovsk.

Kaliningrad railway, the length of which is more than 1800 kilometers, provides a rich suburban communication.

So, in the main Baltic resort of the Amber Region - the city of Svetlogorsk - six pairs of trains are sent daily. The same daily runs between Zelenogradsk and Kaliningrad. There is another railway line in the direction of the Baltic Sea - this is Zelenograd - Pionersky. Every day two or three pairs of electric trains operate on it.

In other directions, suburban communication is provided much less often. So, one train per day goes to Baltiysk, and then only on weekdays. The same situation with electric trains in Strelnya and Chernyakhovsk.

One train a day, regardless of the red days of the calendar, travels to Sovetsk. One more - to Mamonov. But on weekends his route is shortened to Ladushkin.

Stations of the Kaliningrad road

The Kaliningrad Railway has an extensive network in the region. The stations are in all directions. A total of them, taking into account the railway platforms, a few dozen. The largest are located in Kaliningrad, Svetlogorsk, Zelenograd, Pioneer, Sovetsk and Baltiysk.

But there are also quite large stations in smaller settlements. These are Bagrationovsk, Gvardeysk, Guryevsk-Novy, Gusev, Zheleznodorozhny, Znamensk, Ladushkin, Mamonovo, Nesterov, Polessk, Chernyakhovsk and Yantarny.

True, not all these stations are currently operational. For example, in Yantarnoye railway tracks have not been used for several years due to low profitability. That, of course, affects the economic development of the urban district, its tourist potential.

The company train "Yantar"

The visiting card of the Kaliningrad Railways is the "Yantar" train , which follows the Kaliningrad-Moscow route. He appeared in 1964.

Currently, en route, he passes through the territories of Lithuania and Belarus. On his way, such cities as Vilnius, Minsk, Vitebsk, Smolensk and Vyazma, with the final stop in the Russian capital.

The train is formed from seven compartment cars, one of which is designed for persons with disabilities. Also in its composition there are seven reserved seats, one wagon of CB (high comfort) and one car-restaurant.

In Soviet times, by the way, the length of the train was not less than 18-20 cars. In recent years, due to the fall in passenger traffic, the number of wagons has decreased.

The appearance of the train over the years has changed several times. Only the yellow and blue colors in his design remained unchanged, which symbolize amber and the Baltic Sea respectively.

To purchase a ticket for this train you need a foreign passport. At the same time, it is not necessary to have a visa, despite the fact that the train follows the territory of Lithuania, which is part of the European Union. Between Lithuania and Russia, there are arrangements for the issuance of a simplified transit railway visa for passengers, which the consul is issuing directly in the car. It is valid for three months to travel round and round.

Due to the requirements for having a passport, you can not buy an online ticket to Kaliningrad.
