Kalanchoe Kalandiva

A beautiful house plant, pleasing with its flowering at a time when the frost and everything is covered with snow, although it blooms in the spring. In conditions of greenhouses (and in apartments too) it is possible to achieve flowering in any season. Coloring of flowers is various: white, pink, yellow, orange, red, and lilac also occurs. Umbrellas are large. The flowering period is about two weeks. In Kalanchoe Kalandhiva there are representatives of both medium-sized (about 40 centimeters) and very miniature (not more than 15 centimeters).

Kalanchoe Kalandiva. Care

The plant is unpretentious. Very simple in care, because it does not take much time, does not require special conditions, it is almost not exposed to diseases. And its wreckers "do not offend". Probably, here works natural "solidarity", there is a feeling that even pests understand that this plant is not only beautiful, but also useful. But more on this later (in the final part of the article).

He prefers good lighting (an ideal place is a window sill). Abundant watering of the plant is not required. Frequent moisturizing does not like, but if you do not water for a long time, it will inevitably drop the lower leaves (at first they will turn yellow, and then fall off). However, after a long flowering, you should still allow the flower to rest, giving it a drought for three weeks. At this time, you need to reduce the intensity of lighting and temperature (up to 15 degrees). The latter conditions are desirable, but not necessary. In summer it is useful to take the plant under the open sky. As you can see, care for Kalanchoe is quite simple.

Kalanchoe Kalandiva can bloom anytime, more often - in December. If you want to delay flowering, prolonging it until April, remove the tips of the stems regularly, stopping this procedure in November. The point is that the peduncles appear at the ends of the shoots, and if they are regularly plucked, the bloom may never begin. Therefore, do not take a great interest in formation.

Pasynkovanie is spent all year. For this, apical cuttings (vegetative reproduction) are suitable . The plant requires periodic rejuvenation, as the crown grows over time, shoots are pulled out, and the old trunks become coarse and from the inside are lignified, bare from the outside. Because of this Kalanchive Kalandiva loses the compactness of the crown, becomes spreading, loose, requiring more space.

The growth of the plant will be less turbulent if planted in small pots, less often watered and even less often fertilized. By the way, nitrogen fertilizers are contraindicated to the flower: you can never see flowering, but the vegetative mass will grow by leaps and bounds.

Cuttings give roots in both water and soil. In water, this will happen more quickly (one week is enough, after which it can be planted in the ground). Rooting in the soil, too, does not require any special conditions. The main requirements are fiber, wet, loose soil, but not heavy. The plant can die from lack of air and stagnant moisture. Therefore, use the garden soil mixed with peat, with the addition of chopped moss or coconut fiber. By the way, transshipment Kalanchoe carries very well, regardless of the season.

Be more careful about the choice of cuttings. If the shoots are old, shorten them to 8-7 cm. But it is better to take the cuttings from the young shoots. After rooting, the plant will give a good shape and branch harder.

In order to study the useful properties of this plant, many experiments were carried out. It turned out that the juice is low-toxic, heals wounds and burns, significantly inhibits the development of inflammation in the exudative phase. Kalanchoe has an amazing ability to clear ulcers and wounds, epithelizes (heals and restores) damaged areas. Therefore, it was applied in veterinary medicine, in dental, gastroenterological, surgical, obstetric-gynecological, ophthalmic, otolaryngological practice.
