It is still unknown why coffee has a laxative effect

Coffee does magical things. This drink wakes up, invigorates and makes people happy. But if you drink coffee daily, you probably noticed a strange feature: your beloved latte has a laxative effect. However, until now it is not known for certain why this happens.

Based on a sociological survey

Back in 1990, scientists conducted a small sociological survey on this topic. As a result, 29 percent of respondents said they had the urge to defecate immediately after the cup had been drunk. There were people who noted the activity of the distal part of the colon no later than half an hour after breakfast. Some scientists believe that the urge to go to the toilet every morning may not be associated with caffeine at all.

Gastrocolic reflex

Probably, after a long sleep and lack of work as such, with the onset of the morning the gastrointestinal tract begins to intensify. When food or drink comes in an empty stomach, a gastro-ciliary reflex is provoked. In fact, the stomach, which received a portion of a fragrant latte, gives the intestines a signal: it's time to free up space, because a new day has begun.

However, some people may not experience anything like this. Experts attribute this to a lesser susceptibility to intestinal disorders. In other words, if your stomach is too susceptible to different foods, then most likely you will feel the urge to go to the toilet after drinking a cup of coffee with milk.
