Ishim River in Kazakhstan: description, tributaries

Honestly speaking, the Ishim River does not enjoy such huge popularity as, say, the Volga, the Yenisei, Lena or other large water arteries. But, nevertheless, the local population no longer represents their life without this important geographical object. Among other things, fishing on the Ishim River has long been the most popular pastime for both adults and children living in the neighborhood.

This article is aimed at acquainting the readers with this waterway of the country, indicating at the same time its main characteristic features. It will also tell you about where the Ishim River flows, how seasonal weather changes affect it and what should be taken into account while relaxing on its banks.

Section 1. General information

The Ishim River, which flows simultaneously in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, is the left and longest tributary of the Irtysh, which in turn belongs to the basin of the Ob river, which subsequently flows into the Kara Sea.

In Russia, this waterway flows within the Tyumen and Omsk regions, in Kazakhstan - in the Akmola and North Kazakhstan regions.

In fact, Ishim does not have many full-flow tributaries. The most famous of them are Terisakkan, Koluton, Imanbulyk, Zhabai and Akan-Burluk.

In addition, on the river are immediately two reservoirs, Sergeevskoe and Vyacheslav. Both are of great economic importance, that is, their water is widely used both for water supply to the local population and for irrigation of fields and household plots.

Section 2. What is geography?

The Ishim River begins in the Niyaz Mountains, where it flows mainly to the west in a narrow valley and between fairly rocky shores.

It should be noted that the valley of the river considerably widens below Astana, after Derzhavinsk water stream turns to the northeast, descends a little lower and goes to the West Siberian Plain, where the rest of the time flows along the flat Ishim steppe in a wide floodplain, in the lower reaches Among the swamps.

By the way, not everyone knows that the Ishim River is navigable for 270 km up from Petropavlovsk and from Vikulovo to the mouth.

The river bed is quite meandering, its width reaches up to 200 m in some places. The bottom is mostly sandy. The total length is 2450 km. Thus, Ishim is the longest on the ground tributary of the second order.

The floodplain is wide, has a large number of lakes. That is why fishing on the Ishim River is considered among the professionals excellent.

Section 3. Ishim's hydrology

Ishim is a river with exceptionally snowy food, it is due to snow that it receives more than 80% of its annual runoff. In spring, around April 10-12, there is a significant increase in water content. The decline of the flood occurs approximately in the middle of July. Summer-autumn low-water period lasts until mid-October. Due to the flat nature of the catchment area, many closed slides, small slopes of the riverbed, rising water levels due to summer-autumn rains are almost not observed.

In addition, the source of the Ishim River and its sleeves are fed by groundwater and flood water. This is sufficient to maintain a constant flow of water.

The average annual value (calculated for a hundred years) of the river's discharge per year is 76.0 cubic meters. M / sec. Ledostav, as a rule, comes in the second half of November and lasts an average of 5 months. The catchment area is 177 thousand square meters. Km.

Section 4. Flora of coastal areas

Any city on the Ishim River can be considered a priori a beautiful and picturesque one. Tourists traveling in this area usually have completely different pictures. In spring, the banks of this river look like an emerald carpet of herbs with bright flowers, and in summer they look more like a sea of silver feather grass.

True, towards the end of the summer the picture becomes more dull - the boundless steppe, burned by dry winds, but in places it is adorned with whole fields of golden wheat. Of course, the nature of this region man has changed greatly, and now the cultivated field occupies most of the local territory than the steppe or relict forests.

It should be noted that the local pines are rather short, thick-bodied, so the forest looks thin, has poor underbrush and grassy cover. But a few forests and hills still play an important role - they protect the crops from summer dry winds, and in winter they contribute to the accumulation of snow.

In the lower reaches of Ishim, it is more like a taiga river that flows unhurriedly in low wooded banks. The closer the north, the less often on the way of the traveler there are fields and more often beautiful white-birch groves appear, which turn into mixed forests. Here, a lot of spruce, pine, and sometimes even larches, cedars, firs grow. Then in some places the trees begin to recede into the background, marshes with rare and thin fir trees, slender birches are seen. On the banks of the Ishim there were always many meadows, the local inhabitants annually harvested hay here, grazed cattle and simply enjoyed the charming nature of this region.

Section 5. Features of local fauna

Any city on the Ishim River is also attractive for travelers to the rich world of fauna, which includes a variety of representatives of the class of amphibians, fish, birds and, of course, mammals.

Golets, minnow, dace, roach, ruff, pike perch, bream, burbot, pike, perch and pineworm are found both in small rivers and in numerous old men where they swim during the flood of Ishim.

Lakes and parts of rivers freezing to the very bottom are rich in crucian carp and lake minnow.

Unfortunately, rare fish listed in the Red Book are not found in these reservoirs. As, however, and the endangered species of animals.

In the warm season, it is often enough to meet various kinds of invertebrates. These are, as a rule, beautiful and colorful butterflies, worms, earthen cockroaches, dragonflies, caddis flies, podenki, arachnids, mollusks, bugs, beetles and freckles. In spring and summer, local residents are advised to be extremely careful on vacation because of the special activity of ticks.

Section 6. Is it worth it to fish on Ishim?

Most of the locals happily spend time on the Ishim River, fishing and hoping to surprise with their catch.

And you can catch fish here, both small and large enough, so you can safely engage in such a quiet hunt. Although it is worth noting that large specimens are rarely found here.

Here you can easily catch a perch, and in some places a pretty decent pike perch. However, many fishermen complain that the pike has not been seen there for a long time. Because of the constant barriers, construction debris and construction of dams, such a fish has become a real rarity on Ishim.
