The view of continuously pouring jets from above reminds of an impressive funnel, greedily sucking everything around. Only from the height of the bird's flight can you appreciate the scale and beauty of an unprecedented hitherto spectacle.

It is all the more surprising to learn that the famous waterfall (Mauritius is rich in different wonders, and one of them - in the photo above) is just a "ghost", but in fact cascades are a fuzzy sand flowing under the transparent surface of the ocean. Layer after layer of muddy deposits create a holographic image, which is taken as a stormy stream of water.

Representatives of various religions coexist peacefully on the island, but most of the locals profess Hinduism.

The temple complex, located at Lake Grand Bassin, is the most important place for Hindu adherents, who accepts thousands of pilgrims. All guests are met by the third on the whole globe in size the statue of Shiva, surprising with a special realism.

The supreme deity, who is extremely revered on the island, symbolizes two principles - destructive and creative, life and death. The statue is considered unique because it is the only image of Shiva standing, not sitting, as required by local traditions.

On the greatest night, dedicated to the deity, 100,000 believers come to the temple high in the mountains, coming for the holiday from different continents. To appease Shiva, lavish gifts are brought to the shore of the lake, which later are taken away by monkeys.

Sacred lake

And the Lake Gran Basen itself, surrounded by temples, arouses considerable interest of travelers. Native people have long been worshiped by him, considering the reservoir, formed in the crater of the volcano, to be sacred.

Surrounded by sacrificial places, the lake in the morning and in the evening is a very curious sight: a light fog hiding Gran Bassen gives it, according to tourists, a mystical look.
