Is agitation - is it curable or not?

Agitation is a strong emotional excitement, accompanied by fear, anxiety and growing into motor and speech excitement. A person has a need for the same type of movements, which are very often not realized. This state is accompanied by excessive fussiness and the performance of only simple actions that are made ill-conceived, automatically.

According to experts, agitation is a pre-pathological condition that arises from the appearance of severe stress or the presence of mental illness in a patient. In particular, it means catatonic schizophrenia, anxious neurosis, Alzheimer's disease and depression. Also, agitation can be a symptom of an infectious disease, and sometimes it is caused by alcoholic or narcotic intoxication.

Symptoms

We go further. There are a number of signs on which agitation is detected. Symptoms are manifested, first of all, in the behavior of the patient, although he himself does not notice it. There is fussiness in the movements and speech anxiety. The patient pales face, hands tremble, palpitation becomes more frequent and sweating intensifies. In such a state, complete absence of thoughts is observed, the opportunity to reason and establish cause-and-effect relationships is lost. Particular attention is paid to the development of agitation in Alzheimer's disease. In this case, patients also have severe behavioral disorders. In particular, there are complaints about all sorts of hallucinations, depression occurs, a person is drawn to travel. Also, the patient is overly excited. He begins to use obscene expressions uncharacteristic for him.

Treatment

It is known that agitation is a curable disease. But in order to completely get rid of it, it is necessary to conduct a thorough diagnosis. A big mistake will be to leave this process on its own. The patient can do harm to himself and his family when agitation develops. Treatment will depend on the cause of the disease. If necessary, then apply medications. But more often they use psychotherapeutic techniques that help the patient overcome the disease and increase its resistance to stress factors.

Application of drugs

For clinical practice, agitation is a frequent occurrence. A lot of special research has been done on this issue. As it turned out, 25% of employees at work are worried. In addition, ambulance nurses when dealing with such patients face physical or verbal threats. Agitation always negatively affects the patient's condition. If, during her treatment, medications were applied too soon, it would be very difficult to conduct an accurate psychiatric evaluation. On the other hand, delayed treatment entails the risk of harm to the patient. There is a probability that in this case, agitation will reach maximum severity, and to exit this condition, the patient will need higher drug doses. Therefore, in order to obtain the optimal result, timely treatment should be carried out.
