Insulin should be given on time ...

Diabetology came to the 21st century with a number of innovations:

Created ultrashort and long-lasting, non-peak analogues of insulin;

Developed inhalation forms of insulin and the so-called "oral" forms (irrigation of the oral mucosa);

Atraumatic devices for the administration of insulin have been developed and continue to be improved, for blood sampling for the definition of glycemia; New series of insulin pumps and pens;

Continue experimental work in the field of molecular endocrinology and transplantology to create a genetically identical beta cell specifically to the pancreas.

Of course, not all the latest achievements of world diabetology have already come to our practice and really affect the quality of life of people with diabetes in Belarus. But experience convinces that the waiting period for such innovations for our region is gradually becoming shorter.

However, I would like to talk with you, dear readers, about how effectively we use "yesterday's knowledge," that is, Something that at one time was generally inaccessible to diabetic patients, then it became an opening, a new hope ... And now it is perceived as quite ordinary, self-evident and generally available.

Today it is not difficult to find a diabetologist, but unfortunately, the attention of patients, and sometimes even the doctors, escapes "banal", but very important for achieving adequate compensation for diabetes mellitus.

One of these moments is the timely introduction of insulin.

Studies show that more than 75% of people receiving insulin do not comply with the recommendation. And, for example, activists from Smolevichi branch of BGNO "Children's Diabetes" told such a story. A very small child was ill. Mom and grandmother, after experiencing in the beginning a shock, fright, despair (in general, something that you are well familiar with), then for a long time could not find a common language in the matter of feeding the baby. What the one considered necessary and useful, the second strongly rejected, and vice versa. While they were arguing, the child, as it turned out, just was undernourished! Experienced mothers from the "Children's Diabetes" came to the newcomers and for an hour and a half explained how and how to feed the sick child. And they all were amazed: "What can you give me fish and meat?" They could not even think that even sugar was possible! .. "
