Inguinal epidermophytia: causes, symptoms and methods of treatment

Inguinal epidermophytosis is considered quite common. The causative agent of the disease is a specific fungal infection that affects only people and is completely harmless to animals. It is worth noting that in the presence of such a disease it is necessary to make an appointment with a dermatologist. Self-treatment is prohibited, since the symptoms of epidermophytosis can easily be confused with candidiasis, psoriasis, dermatitis and other skin diseases .

Inguinal epidermophytia: causes of the disease and ways of infection

As already said, the causative agent of the disease are pathogenic fungi, which are easily transmitted from an infected person to a completely healthy one.

Infection with direct physical contact is rare. Most often, fungal spores spread together with household items - towels, clothing, bed linens, blankets, etc. Often there is a spread of the disease in a stationary environment, but only if the thermometers, instruments and vessels of patients have not been disinfected.

It is also possible to infect during a bath visit, public shower cabins, swimming pools. In some cases, the infection can be picked up in the gym, where fungi settle on mats and other shells.

The risk of a fungal infection of the body increases if the person sweats too much or neglects the rules of personal hygiene, as high humidity creates just perfect conditions for the growth and reproduction of fungi.

Inguinal epidermophytia: symptoms of the disease

The main and most striking symptom of the disease is a characteristic rash of a reddish or brownish color. The rash appears small spots, whose diameter at the very beginning of the disease does not exceed one centimeter. The spots have rather sharp outlines, since there are swollen rollers or bubbles on the edges. As the disease develops, individual small spots can merge, thereby forming quite large lesions. A very characteristic feature of such a rash is that the skin remains smooth and light inside the stain.

Very important is the location of the rash. The skin is most often affected in the area of folds, since the humidity here is the highest. First, the spots appear in the area of inguinal folds. In men, the rash may partially spread to the scrotum, while the penis is not affected by this. In some cases, the rash appears near the anus, on the axillary folds. In female representatives, the skin under the mammary glands can be affected. It is rare that skin lesions occur between the toes or the toenails.

Patients complain of itching or mild burning. Sometimes touching the affected areas of the skin causes pain.

Inguinal epidermophytosis: what to treat?

Inguinal epidermophytia is a disease that should be treated only under the supervision of a doctor. It is difficult to diagnose to oneself, because a rash can be a symptom not only of epidermophytosis, but also of a number of other diseases. The dermatologist, after the examination, will prescribe an analysis of skin scales taken from the affected areas. This analysis, as well as the sowing, will finally confirm the diagnosis.

As for the treatment, as a rule, patients are prescribed antifungal ointments, antihistamines . In addition, in the course of three weeks, you need to treat the skin folds twice a day with a 2% solution of iodine.

Inguinal epidermophytosis in most cases does not cause any complications, especially if the treatment is correct and timely. In order to prevent relapses it is necessary to undergo a course of treatment to the end and maintain the purity of the body.
