Hunting crossbow: drawings, characteristics, photo. How to make a hunting crossbow with your own hands?

Hunting crossbow is a fairly effective weapon, which, if necessary, can serve as a worthy replacement for the rifle. The main advantage of the weapon is the noiselessness of the shooting. Therefore, in the course of its application it is quite difficult to frighten the beast.

Design features

What is a hunting crossbow? The photos presented in this material allow to see that it can distinguish the following constituent parts:

  1. The body is the main power unit, which carries loads when the string is lowered. Serves as the basis for installation of functional parts.
  2. Pads are part of the design for installing arcs of string tension.
  3. A box is a detail of a crossbow that is used to place an arrow.
  4. Bowstring is a functional part, which serves to propel used shells.
  5. Shoulders - elastic structural element, which gives energy when the string is tensioned.
  6. Stirrup is a detail that makes it easier to charge a crossbow.
  7. Trigger - a device through which the lock opens and releases the string on the shot.
  8. Sight - mounted on a crossbow to facilitate guidance on the target.

Hunting crossbow with wooden shoulders

It is a simple construction. As it follows from the definition, the shoulders here are made of wood. Such a crossbow can not be called an example of reliability. Products of this category are frankly short-lived and therefore not very popular. Most often, such a hunting crossbow is used as a collector's, ornamental weapon.

Crossbow with arcs of metal

Extremely common option. Hunters pay attention to such crossbows, because they show high power when firing. Hunting bows and crossbows with metal arches are suitable not only for training, but also for use in the field in tracking down production. For the production are used as whole arcs, and composite structures that are composed of several symmetrical parts.

Recursive Crossbow

Classic version with curved shoulders. Such a hunting crossbow is extremely simple to handle and convenient to use. Has small dimensions and improved characteristics. Easy to disassemble and transport.

Recursive crossbows contain fortified shoulders, the tension force of which can reach about 50 kg. This, in turn, opens the door for hunting small and large animals.

Block Crossbow

The design includes a whole system of eccentrics, thanks to the work of which the process of charging weapons is facilitated and the boom is accelerated. Compared to recursive models, the block hunting crossbow is more compact. Indicators of power here also at altitude.

Minor dimensions are provided by the installation of short arcs. The use of this solution contributes to easy overcoming by the owner of the weapon of the areas covered with thickets and bushes.

Characteristics of a hunting crossbow type crossbow provide a simple platoon assembly and a small return, which is achieved due to the rational distribution of the force vector.

Crossbow pistol type

The so-called pistol crossbow can be classified as a separate category. Products of this type are characterized by the following qualities:

  • Thanks to reduced dimensions, they are extremely handy when transporting weapons;
  • They have high power and allow them to hit targets both at medium and long distances;
  • They have less lethal force compared to block systems, but they throw out arrows at a higher speed;
  • In addition to arrows, can produce darts, harpoons, metal balls.

Sights

The main feature of shooting from a crossbow is a significant displacement of the sighting line. In other words, after the shot is fired, the projectile begins to gravitate toward the ground rather quickly. Therefore, for such weapons it is advisable to install optics with a special crossbow net. To effectively target the target, crossbows can be equipped with optical sights with a 4x zoom.

Some hunters prefer collimating systems, which also show themselves quite effectively. And this option makes it possible to hunt both in the daytime and in the evening. Collimator sights are extremely convenient to use when aiming at moving targets.

Hunting crossbow with their own hands

Having determined with the necessary parameters and characteristics of the future weapon, it is necessary to proceed to the development of the corresponding drawing. As a sample, you can use a ready-made chart or make the last one yourself. Whatever it was, the manufactured hunting crossbow with their own hands will eventually have to be customized for themselves.

During the preparation of the drawing, it is worthwhile to focus not only on personal wishes, but also take into account the availability of the necessary materials, proceed from their cost, complexity of processing.

How to make a hunting crossbow with your own hands? Usually, for the beginning, a bed is prepared, on which the shoulders, the stirrup, the guide, the trigger mechanism are subsequently attached. The arcs are difficult for self-manufacturing. Therefore, in some cases, it is better to purchase them in ready execution.

Help make a hunting crossbow with their own hands the drawings, examples of which are shown in the photos below.

Housing

The base on which the bed and shoulders of the product are fixed is the body. It is desirable to cut it out of a metal billet with a thickness of about 2.5-3 mm.

In the central part of the body and at the end, with the help of bolts, the crossbow bed is fixed. The use of such a solution contributes to the rapid assembly of weapons for bringing into combat condition and disassembly during transportation.

The stirrup is welded to the body at the bottom. The latter ensures that the crossbow can be held with the foot while pulling the bowstring. As a material for the stapes, it is recommended to use a wire with a diameter of 6 to 8 mm.

Shoulder

The material of the construction of the structural element can serve as an automobile spring. In such metal shoulders, semicircular notches for bolts are made, by means of which the part will be screwed to the body.

It is widely believed that the use of metal springs as a basis for the manufacture of shoulders is a rather dangerous solution. And in fact, when using a self-made crossbow in conditions of low ambient temperature, the probability of kink of the part increases, especially in the places of fastenings. Such cases are accompanied by the ejection of small fragments. Therefore, the idea should be applied at one's own peril and risk.

Blocks

Ready-made drawings of a hunting crossbow often require the presence of block devices. The latter facilitate tension and give an advantage in strength. To bring such a crossbow into a combat state is easier than by simply connecting the ends of the bowstring with the ends of the shoulders. Moreover, during the descent the starting speed of the boom increases, which is reflected in the increase in the range of the weapon. The main disadvantage of installing a block system is the complexity of manufacturing and increasing the total weight of a crossbow.

Bowstring

As a string, you can use a metal cable with a diameter of about 2-3 mm. The bowstool will be harder to fasten on the weapon, and the thin will become stretched as the product is used.

To fix the bowstring at the ends of the shoulders, it is enough to make a regular loop. It is better to place pieces of leather or any other dense material in advance under the cable ties. This solution avoids the rubbing of the string on contact with metal shoulders.

Lodge

To produce the part, you can use an easy-to-process wooden workpiece in the form of a board about 30 mm thick. It is worth noting that, despite the high strength, the oak is not very suitable for these purposes due to its considerable weight. With regard to spruce and pine, the latter are not resistant to mechanical damage and are jarred when exposed to moisture. Therefore, the type of wood should be selected depending on the goals and conditions for future use of the crossbow.

How to make a hunting crossbow really practical? Particular attention in the manufacture should be given to the guide in the form of a groove for the boom, which must be tried to make the most smooth, smooth and polished. The condition of the groove largely affects the accuracy of the shooting. It is desirable that the width of the bed is equal to the diameter of the arrows used. It can be cut using a circular saw.

As a means to hold the arrow, it is rational to use a spring that will press the projectile against the bed and not allow the last to slip out of the groove before the shot is fired.

Trigger

The material of the workpiece is sheet iron. It is desirable that its thickness is not less than 6-7 mm. The drawing of the mechanism is shown in the following diagram:

All the details are laid directly in the bed of the self-made crossbow. Here a special socket is cut out, through holes are made for the axis of the mechanism, on which elements of descent are subsequently installed. An example of setting the descent is shown in the figure below.

Sighting optics

As an arbalest sight, you can use factory optics from firearms. A fairly practical solution is the use of the fly and the whole. With the help of the latter one can make vertical corrections. Horizontal adjustments are convenient to carry out using a flies reinforced at the intersection of the shoulders and the bed.

To ensure the convenience of transporting a crossbow, it is worthwhile making the sighting device removable. For this, a so-called Picatinny bar can be mounted on the weapon, which allows the assembly of individual factory-made sights.

Finally

Own production and operation of a hunting crossbow is a pretty radical decision. Often, in the absence of experience of this type of activity, the quality and reliability of homemade accommodation leave much to be desired. In reality, even crossbows of the budget category of factory manufacturing, the cost of which is about 3000-4000 rubles, are much more effective, convenient and practical in comparison with the creations of their own hands.

Apparently, it's quite possible to make a hunting crossbow. However, by acquiring weapons in a specialized store, the user receives guarantees of its security, reliability of assembly. When you use the self-made crossbow, you can only rely on yourself.
