How to start the self-diagnosis "Toyota": step by step instruction. Self-diagnosis АКПП "Toyota"

The car, as is known, refers to vehicles, but not to luxury items. That's just the cost of some diagnostic and repair operations makes this doubt. In many respects this applies to Japanese cars popular with us.

So the knowledge of how Toyota's self-diagnosis starts, for example, can save you a lot of money. Particularly difficult in this operation is nothing, just need to be more careful and follow instructions exactly. So how do you make a self-test? "Toyota" - the car is quite new (it is assumed that you do not have a rarity), but because it has a lot of electronic circuits, which greatly facilitate this task.

Basic information

In principle, any more or less modern car has a special unit for self-diagnosis of the engine. How does this mechanism work? Quite simply: electronics constantly monitors the performance of devices, comparing them with the reference values that were laid by the manufacturer. If something goes wrong, the diagnostic program is activated, which specifically determines what went wrong. Roughly speaking, the "Toyota" self-diagnosis works the same way.

Only when all the elements are in order, the bypass program is removed, and the engine will start working in the normal mode. Note that many people know the luminous inscription "CHECK" or a separate pictogram with the image of the engine, which signal a malfunction. If the fault has been repaired, the image or icon goes out.

In general, this is self-diagnosis. "Toyota" in this regard is a very "friendly" car, as everything is immediately visible on the dashboard (in most cases), and the Japanese themselves took care of the availability of normal, detailed manuals and recommendations that describe all possible error codes that Greatly facilitates the life of service workers and ordinary motorists.

How useful is this operation?

It is important to remember that the data on the error that has occurred must be recorded in the memory of the on-board computer. If its power was not interrupted (the battery was not removed, for example), these data can be read from the instrument panel (Toyota) or pulled out of the computer (Nissan). With some malfunctions, the engine will immediately die out, but in some cases, when a malfunction allows the operation of the machine, the error code is simply written to the internal memory of the computer.

This is very convenient, since later you will be able to find out all the details about the state of your car. Actually, this is also a good self-diagnosis. "Toyota", thus, favorably differs from other foreign cars in that it is possible to save much on finding out the reasons for which various malfunctions are manifested.

In addition, so you can find out the reasons why the machine from time to time behaves abnormally. For example, you stopped because of a stalled engine in the middle of the road. Turned a couple of times the key in the ignition - the engine quietly wound up, the car drove on. What was it? "By eye" you just do not know anything, but if you look at the contents of the memory of the on-board computer, everything will become clear. How does the Toyota self-diagnosis start? Let's find out!

Diagnostics start

Under the hood of Toyota there is a special connector for diagnosis. In appearance it is such a plastic box on which it is written DIAGNOSTIC. It is necessary to open its lid to see on its reverse side detailed marking of all pins. After that, any suitable piece of wire is taken, which closes the connectors "TE1" and "E1". Get behind the wheel of the car, turn on the ignition (be sure to turn off the air conditioner and the stove), then carefully watch the lamp «CHECK».

So, right after the ignition is turned on, it should start blinking. If the lamp blinks continuously two or more times, then the computer's memory is empty. You take out the jumper, close the diagnostic block and go to your affairs further.

Worth knowing

Modern diagnostic blocks divide faults into two types: light and heavy, and in the first case they do not block the memory of the on-board computer with error codes. So, if a simple malfunction has disappeared for some reason, then there will be no records of it. It often happens that after driving on a bad, dirty road, "Jackie Chan" begins to signal a fault in the ABS system. The onboard computer will immediately disconnect it. But it's only ok to wash the car after such a trip, as the contacts will clear, and everything will come back to normal without any repairs.

On which model does self-diagnosis most often end? "Toyota Corolla" of some series is the most striking example, such cars are completely unadapted for movement on domestic roads.

Some error codes

Here is an example: flash / pause, then flash again, followed by a long pause and a normal flash, indicates error # 21. Another example: if after a flashing there is a long pause, then again a blink and a pause, followed by a flash again, then this is mistake number 12. Note that each Toyota engine has its own table of error codes. But here it should be remembered that most motors in this respect practically do not differ from each other, since many models simply do not provide some signals.

In addition, in most cases they have different verification standards: on one model the device can produce 0.45 volts, and on the other - 0.5. All this we are talking about so that you clearly understand: there are no fundamental differences in the start of the diagnosis, only the codes and the reference values programmed at the plant differ.

The most simple table of codes of malfunctions is observed on old cars of the Japanese company. If the car is functional, it simply blinks the light bulb, and the gap between the flashes is three seconds. All malfunctions are defined by only ten codes, so in this case there is an extremely easy self-diagnosis. "Toyota Corolla" of the first families has just such a simplified system.

Important note

It is important to remember one simple rule: all engines of the Japanese concern are initially equipped with almost identical diagnostic programs. However, due to structural differences that can manifest even within the same family of the same "Corolla", the signals will be completely different.

To bring them to the pages of this article is completely meaningless, since these data should be available in the operating manual of your machine directly. It is strongly advised not to use data from other models, because with this approach, you can completely incorrectly diagnose the problem that has arisen in your car.

Differences between diagnostic blocks

On old Toyota cars, there is no diagnostic unit, but there is a freely dangling "chip" with two contacts, protected by a plastic cap. Actually, its outputs are similar to the connectors "E1" and "TE1" of new machines. If there is nothing at all, you can take a 12V lamp and two wires: one of them is grounded to the case, and the second one should touch all the "suspicious" connectors. Do not worry: you will not burn anything.

When you still find "TE1", the lamp on the dashboard immediately goes out, and the on-board computer will issue a trouble code. Note that when connecting the "E1" and "TE1" pins, not only the EFI diagnostics will be started, but also the checking of some third-party units.

Clear memory from previous readings

Typically, this requires removing the HAZ-HORN fuse, and in other models - STOP (see the manual of your car). Sometimes there is an option EFI. However, everything can be made easier: for half a minute to drop the negative terminal of the battery, after which the memory with the guarantee will be reset. But only in this case will erase the memory in the climate setting and the clock. And yet, if you have a car in 1998 or newer, such a hard cleaning can cause problems with the operation of many systems, and it can last up to several days.

This is explained simply: modern machines can be adjusted to a specific driving style, and the data is also stored in the on-board computer memory. However, this phenomenon has a purely positive side. Many of us buy a car after one or two owners, and the technique of driving them was not always satisfactory. Such a machine can eat a gasoline throat, inadequately respond to a gas pedal. In a word, she behaves badly and clearly "begs" for a trip to the service.

But before that, you may well try to reset memory. As practice shows, this is often quite enough. In this case, you will not only save your money, but also gain important experience. But how to do self-diagnosis? "Toyota", as we have already said, does not present special surprises in this regard, so nothing particularly difficult for you does not wait.

General diagnostic procedure for ABS and TRC

This is done in the following order:

  • Switch on the ignition without starting the car engine. If there are locks of differentials, they must be disabled, otherwise the self-diagnosis of the Toyota engine will simply not start due to software limitations.

  • Find the diagnostic unit DLC 1 (as we said, it is located under the hood), then by the above "recipe" insert a jumper from the wire or wire. Note that the model MR-2 does not have the required connectors in DLC 1. Look for a dangling "locket" with connectors that will hang next to the engine in this case. The body should be written ABS.

  • The ABS lamp will blink, the signals of which need to identify a specific fault.

  • After that, you can clear the computer's memory. It is necessary to turn on the ignition, turn off the differential locks (if any), and then quickly press the brake pedal, and the interval between pressing should not exceed three seconds. When the memory is completely cleared, the diagnostic lamp flashes at intervals of 0.5 seconds between blinks.

In general, the self-diagnosis of ABS "Toyota" is carried out. The jumper with DLC 1 is retracted, after which a regular part is installed in place. And in the case of ABS, the unit is reset.

Diagnosis of the box

All of the above relied mainly on reading the engine. But what about the self-diagnosis of the automatic transmission of Toyota? In general, there are no special differences (except for error codes, of course):

  • Turn on the ignition, but do not start the car. At the same time, the automatic transmission lamp should light up and go out after three seconds. If this is not observed, then it is necessary to check with fidelity all the fuses, as well as the physical integrity of the lamp itself and the wires.

  • Turn the ignition off. On the same connector DLC 1, you need to connect the above-mentioned conclusions "E1" and "TC". Turn on the handbrake, and then immediately start the engine. Now the automatic transmission indicator should blink at a frequency of four times per second.

  • Start straight ahead: you have to accelerate to at least 80 km / h. If the indicator continues to flicker with the same frequency, then the speed sensors are OK. Otherwise, the verification will continue.

  • Stop the car. After that, remove the jumper between "TS" and "E1" and set it between "E1" and "TC". We read the codes. If there are more than two codes, there will be an interval of 2.5 seconds between them.

  • Again, clean the memory in the manner specified above.

This is how the self-diagnosis of the automatic transmission "Toyota". In some models of cars it can be difficult to find the EFI block. As a rule, it is located under the front passenger seat or on the left pillar. In its metal case there is a well-visible hole, through which it is easy to see two LEDs: red and green, through which error codes are output. The red LED in this case gives out tens of units, and green - units.

In addition, there is also a screwdriver connector, with which you can select the test mode. Before starting the test, make sure that this knob is turned clockwise until it stops.

Other diagnostic schemes

There are two more schemes used on some models of cars of this firm (in particular, this is characterized by self-diagnosis of Toyota Mark 2). As a rule, they are used on machines of early release. This operation should be carried out in the following order:

  • Turn the ignition on. After that, make sure that both LEDs are lit: if this does not happen, you will have to look for wire breaks or other malfunctions.

  • Using a screwdriver, move the handle to the right until it stops.

  • In the order of the queue, the following codes should be displayed: 23, 24 and 31. However, other errors may appear. If this happens, we advise them to write down.

As we have already said, the red LED is a dozen, green is a unit. For example, "23" will look like this: first, the green light will blink twice and then red three times. Important! If the machine is working, then after the appearance of the three above codes there will be a long pause, and then again the same signals. And this will continue indefinitely. In particular, this is characterized by Toyota Carina, whose self-diagnostics, because of this cyclicity, are perceived inadequately by some mechanics, because they see in the repeated error signals.

If everything is OK, press and release the accelerator pedal. Should be signals 24 and 31. If there are any errors of self-diagnosis of Toyota, you need to write them down. After that, start the car. Only the signal 31 can remain, but more often 24 and 31 flashes (in particular, so is the self-diagnosis of the "Toyota Camry"). As in the previous case, write down (in the case of their appearance) additional codes.

Turn the air conditioning on and off again. After this, signals 44 and 24 (or one 44) should appear. Write down other commands (if any) and muffle the motor. After that, erase the memory. To do this, turn off the ignition and turn the handle with a screwdriver alternately in each extreme position (starting with the left, of course), withstand it in each case for at least two seconds. Remember that removing the battery does not always help, because some old units can "keep" the indicators throughout the day.

The second diagnostic scheme

In the second case, a five-mode scheme is used, which can sometimes be found in some new cars. There all the same LEDs and a pen, but work with them should be somewhat different. This approach is different Toyota Avensis. Self-diagnosis of this car is performed in the following order:

  • As in the previous case, make sure that the handle is turned to the right as far as it will go.

  • Then turn on the ignition without starting the engine.

  • The mode selector must also be turned clockwise to the stop.

After that, in a normal state, both diodes briefly light up, and then a long pause follows. Then the selector turns to the left, after which you can turn on the first mode. If you do not, a brief flash and a pause will follow, after which the second mode can be activated. So you can get to the fifth version of the diagnosis.

Decoding modes

Regardless of the mode set, the on-board computer can output all the error codes that are in its memory. If you do not stop it, after a long pause, the issue will start from the beginning (in particular, the Toyota Corona self-diagnosis is carried out). So, here is a description of all five possible options:

  • Checking the serviceability of the entire exhaust system;

  • Analysis of the state of the fuel mixture;

  • Self-diagnostics with a long list of possible errors;

  • Checking the starter, idling and so on;

  • Diagnosis of a particular vehicle failure.

Approximately so and self-diagnostics of "Toyota" is carried out. As you can see, there is nothing supernatural in such a test. The main difficulty is to correctly and timely detect all the moves issued by the system and then interpret them, using as detailed instructions for the operation of your car as possible.
