How to putty ceilings: technology features

Each of us in our lives had to do repairs. Recently, people are increasingly interested in how to putty ceilings with their own hands, as not everyone has the opportunity to hire a construction team or workers. It should be noted that it is not difficult to do this, it is just necessary to know the technology of the procedure.

First of all, you should choose the appropriate tool and prepare the surface for work. You will need a mixture for puttying, a container in which you can make it, putty knives, and sandpaper. It should be remembered that you may need a mixture of two types: for roughing and for finishing work. It all depends on how smooth the surface is.

Naturally, you immediately ask the question: "Why putty the ceiling?" Here everything is simple: you should choose the mixture that is made by a reliable manufacturer. For rough work you will need coarse-grained putty, and for finishing - fine-grained. And it can be sold already ready.

Of course, we should talk about the surface, which will be processed. Before plastering ceilings, they must be prepared: remove the old finish, cover all holes, cracks and other defects. If major repairs are done, then all the plaster is removed, up to the slabs. In order for the mixture to adhere better, it is necessary to primer the surface. If the ceiling has a small slope, then it must be removed with a coarse-grained mixture. In this case, the smoothness of the surface can be checked with a level.

Before plastering ceilings, it is desirable to attach a reinforcing mesh to the surface . It will better consolidate the mixture and prevent it from cracking in the future. It is necessary to apply the material with clear movements. In this case, do not forget to follow the thickness of the layer: it should be the same everywhere. Strips from the spatula on the surface should not be - they need to be smoothed out immediately.

Before coating the ceilings with the final mix, check whether the previous layer has dried completely. The surface must be completely dry, free from wet spots. The thickness of the second layer can not be more than 4 mm. It is applied in the same way as the previous one. In this case, you should not allow any irregularities and streaks. The surface must be perfectly even. If any flaws remain, then after drying they must be immediately removed using sandpaper.

All these actions can be carried out on plasterboard. Only in this case you will need much less mixture, because you can even out the ceiling with the help of sheets. To ensure that there are no traces on the surface, before plastering the ceiling of the plasterboard, it is necessary to cover the seams. To do this, a narrow strip of reinforcing mesh is applied on them and is filled with a mixture. After this, you can carry out all of the above operations. In this case, the preparation of the ceiling will take much less time.

To do all this work independently is quite possible, it is just necessary to be patient and not in a hurry. Good luck!
