How to prepare an electric motor for the first launch

After a period of conservation, transportation, season change or long downtime of the equipment, the electric motor must be put into operation. A lot depends on the right start-up: the service life, the availability of protection and control schemes, the number of subsequent repairs, etc. The machine starts with commissioning. They should be organized on the basis of service instructions. Each company in its own way refers to their conduct. But the basic work before the first start of the equipment is the same for most machines:

- First of all, organizational arrangements are carried out: an outfit or an order for carrying out these works is issued, briefings and necessary approvals are made, and the brigade is formed.

- After this, the responsible personnel make the necessary outages of the equipment and apply protective earthing to the line.

- Check the absence of voltage both with the help of instruments, and by touching current-carrying parts.

- After that, you can check the electric motor. Let's start with a visual inspection and check the rotation of the rotor. The shaft must be easily scrolled by hand or, in the case of heavy machines, in another way. In this case, there should be no extraneous sounds from the bearings. Check the presence of the required grade of grease, replace it if necessary.

- Now remove the bar and check the absence of voltage on the power cable and power circuits of the anti-condensate winding. Disconnect the power cables from the machine.

- We dismantle the copper jumpers and check the resistance of each winding with a micrometer. It should be the same, it should not be different from the passport data. We test the windings with high voltage using a special device. If everything is in order, we collect the required circuit of the windings.

- Also check the electric engine preheater and restore the electrical circuit.

- In a similar scheme, we check thermistors. After the completion of the test work, pay attention to the tightening torque of the bolts and the absence of foreign objects in the bar.

- Close the lid. If the electric motor is explosion proof, then it is necessary to check the presence of a special seal and lubricant. All bolts must be tightened with the necessary force.

It remains to verify the addressing of the line and test it with increased voltage. If all parameters are normal, you can engage in a control and protection scheme. Each electric motor must be protected by basic parameters: permissible overcurrent, overvoltage, etc. After checking the control system and protection for operation, we restore all the commutations and make a trial run.

It should also be noted that other types, for example, an electric DC motor, are tested in a similar manner. Minor differences in verification and preparation for launch depend on various requirements in different companies.
