How to make mead at home: a classic recipe

Historically, the mead is a traditional "home beverage", which is usually treated to guests at public events.

Almost everyone knew about how to make mead at home . The secret of cooking it is that with natural fermentation of honey and water, a liquid of a characteristic shade and with a specific odor is obtained. It should be noted that, having excellent taste characteristics, the mead is an excellent therapeutic remedy. How to make mead at home? For this we need clean filtered water (better buy in the supermarket the highest quality). Of course, our ancestors used pure spring water (or from a well), but in this case there is no special choice. Still need 5 liters of water. Honey should be approximately 1 kg, one teaspoon of yeast, 2 six-liter pots (you can have more capacity), 1 sieve, five-liter capacity and thin rubber medical tubes.

When making a drink, it is permissible to add a little coriander and barberry to give a special aroma (only 1 tablespoon). Some add orange peels, but this is unnecessary, as they "smear" the true taste.

So, from the theory of how to make mead at home, let's get down to practice. 7-8 spoonfuls of the total amount of honey will be put aside to use later. Most of the honey is put in a pan, then we pour it with water and put it on the fire. We stir until complete dissolution. When it is completely dissolved, add the rest of the water and wait for the liquid to boil (boil the mead on a slow fire!). Periodically remove the film with a spoon. After 20 minutes of boiling, add barberry and coriander (if desired).

After 1 hour of boiling, we remove the saucepan. The resulting liquid must be drained through a sieve into another one of the same pan and, once again put on a fire, bring to a boil.

Next, we cast 350 grams of wort into a previously prepared container. Cover the dishes with a lid and wait until it has cooled to 30 degrees. You can put it in cold water to speed up the cooling. After that, pour the yeast, mix with the wort and wait for 15-20 minutes. Then pour the resulting mixture into a saucepan with a wort and again all is well in the way.

The principle of how to prepare a mead further, already most people understand. We take pre-cooked rubber tubes and a 5-liter bottle. We pierce the hole in the lid of the bottle, insert a tube into it. The second end is placed in a jar of water. It is clear that for a long time there were neither cans nor tubes of such. And on the question of how to make mead at home, we would receive a few different instructions. But the result will be the same.

Then just transfer the mead for 2 weeks into a dark cool place for fermenting the wort. Then you need to take the bottles and another tube, with a weight attached to it. We insert this end with a weight in a container with a wort, and put the second in the mouth and pull ourselves a little. As soon as the wort runs, we pour it on the bottles. After testing the fortress of cooked honey, you can dissolve it with water and boil it. Spilling a ready-made drink in bottles, put it in a dark room for another 2 weeks.
