How to choose saw jigsaw for wood?

Choosing the right saw for a jigsaw in the wood in many ways determines the performance and accuracy of cutting material. Immediately it is necessary to clarify that cutting blades for electric jigsaws come in a variety of shapes, types and sizes. That is, each material needs its own file.

We'll try to classify the cutting blades and disassemble it, than, for example, a metal saw differs from a saw for a jigsaw for wood. How to choose a canvas for this or that wood material, will also be discussed in this article.

Features of saws for power tools

The thickness and density of each material is different, which immediately imposes any specific requirements for the quality of steel sheets. This also includes the dimensions and shape of the saws, as well as the angle of the teeth. Some universal models simply do not exist, so do not buy on clever marketing moves about "omnivorous" canvases.

Even if you have the best quality jigsaw for wood, they are unlikely to properly cut the metal. In the same way, cloths for metal will cope with particleboard or plastic only in part (it will be necessary to saw long and hard).

Next, let's proceed to the classification of saws.

Steel

All cutting blades, and saw blades for wood saws also differ in the quality of steel. Each model has a marking spray on the shank, where the material can be determined by the code.

For example, saws for jigsaws on wood Makita are always made of high-quality carbon steel marked "NS S". This type of canvas is suitable for any wood material, be it wood, fiberboard, chipboard, plywood or even plastic. In our case (wood), it is not so much the hardness of steel that is important, as its elasticity.

Marking "HS S" means that the blade is made of hardened and high-speed steel, which is the best option for working with metals of the light and medium group. The material of such saws is much harder, but is not elastic, that is, more fragile.

The marking "BIM" (biferrum) implies the presence of both of the above properties, that is, in one person, both firmness and flexibility with flexibility. Such cloths are used for cutting metals of the older group and some complex alloys. On the shelves of some brands, you can find saw blades for wood fret saws (Bosch, Gross) with this marking, but you will be cutting them very long (and expensive), so it's better to use the usual "NS S".

The inscription "НМ" means that the cloths are made of hard alloys. The saws of such a plan find their application mainly in the ceramic region, where there is a dense work with tiles and similar materials.

Size of the canvas

Wood materials tend to have a greater thickness than the same metals or plastic, so jigsaws for woodwork go, so to speak, with a margin, that is, long ones. If the material is rough, like ordinary boards, then it is better to use thicker cloths, and for figured cutting thin. The first is much easier to drive in a straight line, and the latter is more convenient to turn.

Teeth

Cloths with large teeth are designed to work with soft wood, and separately it should be noted that the larger the fangs and the distance between them, the wider the cut step, that is, the sip will be rougher. The same rule works in the opposite direction: less teeth - more beautiful cut.

In addition, the quality of the cut is greatly influenced by the width of the wedges. The smaller it is, the more accurate and accurate the cut will be. But it should be borne in mind that a very small distance significantly increases the working time, making it more time consuming. It is also superfluous to note that saws with a small wiring require high speeds from electrical equipment, so it is necessary to ensure that neither the tool nor the material is burnt.

According to its shape, the teeth can be either oblique (at an angle to the edge of the blade), or straight, like an isosceles triangle. Moreover, in stores you can find cutting instead of usual wiring "waves", where each next tooth is slightly shifted away from the previous one (often found on the shelves of the brand "Makita"). Such cloths are used mainly for a clean cut: countertops, kitchen facades and some other small elements made of wood and chipboard / fiberboard.

If we generalize the features of the choice of canvases by the teeth, then we get the following picture:

  • A rare tooth - softwood and figured cut (thick and thin file, respectively);
  • Average frequent tooth - accurate cutting of chipboard, plywood and processed wood;
  • Small, frequent tooth - cutting plastic and metal in a straight line;
  • Average sloping tooth - clean saws on small radii (table tops, small chipboard elements, plastic).

Shank

There are several types of liners on sale. The most common type is a cloth with a semicircular base and two stops closer to the teeth. Such files are universal and will fit most of the jigsaws.

Some brands produce cutting blades exclusively for their tools with some specific liners. Therefore, during the purchase, please check with the seller for this moment. The same rule is also true for the purchase of a tool of such a plan: it is better to look for something universal and not to bother with fastidious supplies.
