Holy Trinity Cathedral (Simferopol): history, description, photo, address

A very small square in the center of the city of Simferopol is a convent. The name of the monastery is in honor of the Holy Trinity. There are two cult churches on the territory of the monastery. One of them is the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Simferopol is famous for its sights, but this temple is endowed with special beauty. The main value of the cathedral is the relics of St. Luke the Crimean and the Miracle-working icon of the Mother of God "Sorrowful".

A bit from the history of the monastery

In 1868, the Holy Trinity Cathedral was erected. Although the first wooden temple on this site was built by the Greeks in 1796. Later, in 1826, a Greek school was opened here. Over time, the wooden church was dismantled, and in the year 68 of the 19th century a new architect, IF, was built. Kolodin. Since 1996, the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "The Sorrowful" and the relics of Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky) - the shrines of not only the city of Simferopol, but all Orthodox Russia, especially the Crimea, are in the cathedral. In 2003, on the territory of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, a women's monastery was founded. Now the cathedral is the Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Orthodoxy passed a mournful path to its present state. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, because of popular unrest, many temples and monasteries were destroyed, many Orthodox priesthood and simple believers were exterminated, tortured and exiled. The cult buildings of the Crimea were no exception. However, the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Simferopol) miraculously escaped destruction. Similarly, many churches suffered during the Great Patriotic War. And the monastery of Troitskaya avoided a sad fate.

In times of Soviet persecution (30s of the 20th century), the authorities wanted the destruction of the Trinity Cathedral. But the church was saved. Basically it is the merit of the Greek community. For the welfare of the cathedral, two priests paid with their lives. This is Archpriest Nikolai Mezentsev, a guard of church utensils, and Bishop Porfiry, who headed the Crimean Department (1931-1937).

The project of the cathedral

Today, the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Simferopol) is one of the main attractions of the Crimea. The relics of Luke the Crimean are stored in silver cancers, which were presented by holy ascetics from Greece.

The street where the Trinity convent is located is called Odessa (since 1946). But once it was a Greek street, as a sign that there was a temple built by the Greeks here, and a Greek school. And in general, on this street in those days there were many Greeks.

IF Kolodin designed the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Simferopol) in the classical style. If you look at it from above, you can see a cross-shaped outline. In the middle of the cathedral an octagonal light dome rises. The belfry is built above the left part of the temple and has small dimensions. Outside, the church is decorated with decorative elements and has mosaic elements. From the main side you can see the capitals of the Corinthian order, light arches and thin pilasters. In the past, the domes were blue, and today they are repainted in black. The tops of the domes are topped with openwork forging.

The cathedral looks very majestic and beautiful. Directly under the dome, the parishioners look at the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. To the left and right of the image are four evangelists. The temple has two side-chapels:

  • In honor of St. Nicholas of Myra;
  • In honor of the saints Constantine and Helena.

The saint passed 11 years of exile and sustained 3 arrests. In the war years, he worked as a surgeon in the hospital, while he was able to serve at the temple. Having passed a series of difficult trials, in 1946 Luka returned to the Crimea in the rank of archbishop. Father Luka did everything possible and impossible to preserve the old temples, to open new ones and confront the development of the sectarian movement. But even in the elderly he did not leave medicine, operated sick and advised in the military clinic of Simferopol. The prelate had a special gift from God - he could make a correct diagnosis even in the most complicated cases. The sick doctor and archbishop accepted without payment. Luke lived on Kurchatov street, house 1. It was a unique doctor, priest and seer.

The sick believed that only touching his cassock would already heal the sickness. And today, after the saint has departed into another world, one can hear many stories about his miraculous help and healings. St. Luke was canonized in 1995. Already in 1996, his relics were transported to the Trinity Monastery.

Independently updated icon

In the Holy Trinity Cathedral there is an important relic of Orthodoxy - the icon "The Sorrowful" of the Mother of God. She miraculously updated herself. The history of the icon dates back to 1998. Then she was brought to the cathedral. The gift to the temple was made by a resident of the village, who came from the Kirov district. It was a darkened icon, which could hardly be seen. The priest established a darkened image in the altar.

In two weeks there was a church holiday. The hostess, now ex-was also present. During the service, the Royal Gates were flung open. The woman became a witness to the offering. She hardly recognized the image on the icon, it looked so colorful. After the service the parishioner came to find out from the priest who had so skillfully restored the icon. But what was her surprise when she found out that nobody even touched a finger to the icon.

After the commission was convened, conclusions were drawn about the miraculous renovation of the icon. The image touches to tears, each soul string shudders at the sight of Our Lady.
