History of Coffee In Yemen

The history of coffee in Yemen has distant roots going back centuries. The most ancient memories of coffee, according to historians, are contained in the Arabic manuscript, which is stored in the French National Library under number 944.

The wisest Shehabeddin Ben, an Arab writer of the fifteenth century, talks about a certain Gemaleddin, the mufti of the Yemenite city of Aden, who constantly visited the most beautiful Persia.

In one of his long stays there, the mufti drew attention to his fellow tribesmen that they were boiling and drinking coffee. This drink, he never gave much importance.

On his return to Aden, he suddenly felt unwell. Gemaleddin remembered about the black coffee and decided to try it. Drink helped him recover, strengthening his strength. The invigorating effect of coffee helped Gemaleddin easily participate in nightly national and religious vigils.

After a while, the authority and recommendations of the mufti led to the rapid spread of an invigorating drink, which began to drink everywhere in all layers of society.

Today, coffee supplies are usually associated with Yemen. In the production of coffee, this small country does not occupy leading positions, but it is the most fragrant and delicious here. Yemen has long been considered the "father" of coffee. And his favorite "son" is considered to be mocha. It is produced so little that it practically does not enter the trade network.

Describing in his treatise the custom of drinking coffee in ancient Aden, the Arab author did not forget to emphasize that everyone liked this fragrant drink so much that it was sung by him in his national songs.

As soon as coffee became popular in ancient Aden, he quickly reached neighboring cities.

The State of Yemen (Yemen Republic) is located in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula with the capital of Sanaa. It is washed by the Arabian and the Red Seas. Neighbors of Oman and Saudi Arabia.
