Herpes on the face

Herpes is often called an insidious, multifaceted disease, and this is not surprising, because it is so poorly treatable. To begin with, we will consider the mechanism of development of herpes in the human body. Through injured skin or mucous virus enters the body and spreads through nerve fibers, heading from the periphery to the nodes of the central nervous system. It is there that it persists throughout the life of a person in an inactive state. Nerve endings, where the virus is stored, resemble a time bomb - it is from them that the virus diverges to the periphery, forming a new focus of infection (relapse) on the skin or mucous membrane.

What is the treachery of herpes?

Exacerbation of herpes often goes without external manifestations, so a person may not even suspect what is the source of infection for others. Herpes can be excreted from human saliva, even when there are no visible manifestations of the disease on the lips. This is the insidiousness of the infection. Recurrent herpes can manifest itself 2 to 20 times a year, it all depends on the aggressiveness of the pathogen and on the state of the patient's immune system. The multiplicity of herpetic infection lies in the fact that the properties of the virus are very multifaceted and it very selectively affects the nerve and epithelial cells, thus practically all the human organs are involved in the process.

Herpes simplex or HSV

Herpes on the face is the most common disease, the focus of which is mainly projected on the lips or nose, less often on the eyelid. Herpes has the ability to disintegrate in the gene apparatus of the cell, when dividing the cell, it is transmitted along with the gene information, and therefore is considered almost incurable. In total, there are more than 100 types of herpes with different transmission mechanisms and infection routes, but only 8 of them cause herpes in the human body. The most common is simple herpes simplex (HSV), which manifests itself in the form of small vesicles on the skin and mucous membranes. HSV is of two types, the first of which causes herpes on the face, the second - herpes on the genitals.

Diagnosis of herpes simplex

Very often, having found out herpes on the face, we do not hurry to go to the doctor, and we are engaged in a selftreatment. And meanwhile it is necessary to visit a doctor who has a specialization in virology. The specialist will appoint appropriate treatment and warn about the risk of infection of a partner and close people, because the ways of transmission of the virus are very diverse: contact-household, sexual, vertical. The doctor will examine the patient, identify the formation of viral foci, because sometimes you can find herpes on the forehead or in front of your eyes. Only a specialist can diagnose.

Treatment of herpes simplex

Currently, the disease is successfully treated even in patients with a persistently expressed relapsing effect. To achieve complete cure of a person from the herpes virus to date, medicine is not yet in force, but there is an opportunity to keep it in such a state when it will not have the slightest chance to become more active. Two main directions help the patient permanently get rid of the manifestations of herpetic infection:

  1. Antiviral drugs.
  2. Complex therapy (immunotherapy plus antiviral drugs).

The most common antiviral drugs are aciclovir drugs: Zovirax, Acyclovir-Acry, Valtrex. Often, they are connected to immunostimulants ("Immunal", "Arbidol", "Amiksin").

To maintain health, prevention of herpetic infection is necessary . It consists in observing hygiene, limiting the number of sexual partners and maintaining the body's immunity. Therefore, if you have had herpes on your face or elsewhere, you should immediately consult your doctor for a checkup and for appropriate treatment.
